This is an alternative to bulky and visually obtrusive bass traps that works well if you can install it as the manufacturer intends. Clayton Shaw has engineered a solution to a problem that vexes most listening rooms, peaks and dips in the room response; the Black Hole is meant to reduce bass reverberation and the associated boominess and loss of resolution in the bass.

Refer to Spatial Computing's website for an in depth explanation of how it works and what it is:

I bought this unit from a fellow ACer about one month ago, with the goal of addressing a highly reverberant peak  in the bass. The Black Hole addressed the peak but not to the extent that I was hoping, so that now I will pursue a different strategy (multiple subs) to address my problem. Possible reasons to explain the limited success in my system are (1) that I couldn't place the Black Hole as the manufacturer intended (behind the listening seat) but I had instead next to the seat, and (2) that my room was too big for the device (open floor room with a main listening room of ~4100cu ft). The data in the links above indicate that the Black Hole can be quite effective when used as recommended behind the listener seat and next to the rear wall.

The unit is in good conditions. There are a number of small blemishes in the painted satin finish  (nothing major, I tried to capture them in the attached photos). The original 12-15 volt. dc power supply is missing and is replaced it with a Radio Shack multi-voltage 1.5-12 v. power supply.

I'm asking $495.00 (Paypal or postal money order), sells for $1295.00 new. Buyers pays shipping and Paypal fee if used. I'll calculate actual shipping charges (from San Mateo CA 94402, weight 40lb), and ship in the original shipping box.

The only review I could find is on the Six Moons website(http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/blackhole/1.html). The reviewer was not impressed by the effectiveness of the Black Hole, but his installation went against all of the manufacturer's recommendations. Position is critical when dealing with bass: if you can place the unit as intended, you should obtain good result without having to deal with bulky and spouse-unfriendly bass absorbers.

Thank you for reading.
