... MMMMMMMMM Bootylicious! I have extremely close seats to the Prince concert at MGS in July- looking forward to that.

mojoman,
When/where are DBT? I just picked up Southern Rock Opera on vinyl, but haven't been home to listen to it.
Coco Montoya --- small venue ---- this guy can play the blues ............
Mojoman,
Although I haven't seen you perform in a few years, I just wanted to say thank you and that you have been one of my favorite bands for the past 10 years!
From seeing you at small bars/clubs in Rochester, NY to the Beacon Theater in the city to the Meadows in Hartford, to the Meadowlands, Rusted Root has always put on shows where you were pulled into the music and didn't stop moving until the show was over.
I look forward to seeing you perform in the future.
George
Leo Kottke was the latest for me
I saw Madonna at Continental Airlines Arena last Thursday. Great production and decent sound for a stadium show. I guess Esther still has it!
Tonight I have FRONT ROW seats to see Prince at MSG!!! Life is good.

Too many to mention. Each week-end I am going out for a live show. Last time Tchaikovsky and Mozart.
David Gray on Wednesday, he was ok, kind of a chick show.
Last night was Richard Thompson with Danny Thompson on bass, and it was incredible, as usual. The Park West in Chicago, no place better in the world to see an act!
Eliza Gilkyson opened for Richard and was very good. Just got turned onto her, a wonderful song about W - Man of God!
Saw the Rolling Stones play at Fenway Park (home of the Red Sox), Boston MA this summer. Show was great (Black Eyed Peas opened - love Fergy!), but the sound was absolutely horrid. Way too loud (I'm only 26 and think it was too loud) and horrendous EQ. I've seen plenty of indoor arena shows and never heard acoustics like this before. Coundn't understand any lyrics, any bass line... hell I had a hard time distingusihing the guitar solos!Speaking of the Rolling Stones....they just landed a big gig..... the 2006 Super Bowl (http://www.superbowl.com/features/entertainment/rollingstones).
I was definately a great show anyways, awesome crowd, great weather...but would have been spectacular with a little more attention to proper PA setup.

On a flight from Houston to Vegas yesterday, my co-worker had first class to himself and the Black Eyed Peas and sat next to Fergie the whole flight
I had the good fortune of being in Chicago this past Friday and having the time to spend a few hours at Kingston Mines (http://www.kingstonmines.com/. Two acts that night were Linsey Alexander, and Big James and the Chicago Playboys. Man, its been a while since I was in the presence of greatness like these performers! I was there with a friend from Israel who loves blues and jazz but has never seen/heard it live. After Linsey Alexander's full set, and about 10 minutes into Big James' set, my ...
Jeff Tweedy (Front man of Wilco) on his acoustic tour. It was at the Filmore in San Francisco. If you get the chance to see him on this solo tour you won't be diapointed! Amazing guitar player.

I saw him in Northhampton on this tour. What a great show!!
I would love to go to bonnaroo this year just for Oysterhead. I really hope they put together a new album and tour for it. Uncle Les is a god on bass imho!!
Also I scored tickets for The Flaming Lips two night in NYC 3/31 4/1!! I can't wait!!

I am so jealous Ted. My son went for the second time this year and I really wanted to go but couldn't get away from work. There were so many bands I would have liked to have seen; Bonnie Raitt, Rusted Root, Buddy Guy, The Neville Brothers, Umphrey's McGee, Phil Lesh, G. Love, Robert Randolph, Steve Earle and on and on. My son agrees that Radiohead was the best show they saw followed by Oysterhead (who I'm not to familiar with). Did you camp? How was that if you did?
.... BTW, Oysterhead is a supergroup band made up of Trey Anastasio (Phish), Les Claypool (Primus) and Stewart Copeland (Police). They put on quite a show.
Ted
Just returned (Monday) from last weekend's Bonnaroo festival. Wow! Radiohead was like seeing the Beatles in '65! I was in awe. The show was a complete success, even though we were a bit right of the stage and 1/4th of the way back (103k people in attendance). I cannot overemphasize how great it was, at age 52, to experience that concert with my 20 yr old son, the person who turned me on to them. Oh, and Beck was the act before Radiohead (second time I saw Beck in past 12 months) and it was also a great show, puppets and all. Elvis Costello and the Attractions w/ Allen Tousaint, was the afternoon show at the same large What Stage, and they put on a great set, but nowhere near the next two.Bookmark this... http://blueroom.att.com/mainstage/index.php ....they will have archived footage from Bonnaro...the live webcast featuring Bright Eyes, SuperJam with Trey & Mike, and many more.....
We also saw a number of other bands, with Bright Eyes being a standout on Friday. Others included Tom Petty and Buddy Guy.
All in all, a lifetime experience, except that it went so well, we'll likely go again next year. 8)

PeteG,
Have you seen the Blue Man Group show before? If not, you are in for a real treat. It's an awesome show, but nearly identical to the 2003 version. Only significant difference was that Tracy Bonham was the opening act in 2003, then Venus Hum came out. The female singer from Venus Hum was the female singer for BMG. This year Tracy Bonham was the singer for BMG in Cincinnati.
The Blue Man Group traveling show, How to be a Megastar v2.0 is a friggin' awesome rock show. I recommend it to anyone. If you go to this show and don't have fun, you're dead.......
Enjoy,
TIC
How was Madeline?
Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, Joe Ely, and Guy Clark - Acoustic show in Colorado Springs - each player did a song and the next player followed - the guys played real well off of each other, humorous also - no special effects just guitars and vocals - John Hiatt was outstanding. Highly recommended if your a fan.Would have loved to seen that one. Check out Guy Clark's "LA Freeway" on the Heartworn Highways CD. Awesome.
Also Steely Dan at Red Rocks last summer 5th row just rt. of center stage - Donald Fagen is a great entertainer, Michael McDonald opened and then sat in with the band. Music was real and sound was awesome!
I saw Junior Brown last night. One of the best, most exciting live performances I have EVER seen!I've seen him 3times.
HIGHLY recommended!!!!

Hey Cap'n,Sorry Scott, I just saw your post.(http://www.tommyemmanuel.com/gallery/General/te-percussion.jpg)

A couple of weeks ago we saw a terrific show put on by Michael Martin Murphy out at a place called Wildwood Springs Resort. This is a lodge built out in mid-Missouri in the middle of the woods. Bob (the owner) books all kinds of great acts and holds the concerts in the lobby. It seats about 150 people.
Heres a couple of pics I took while we were there.

His voice is still as great as it was back in the 70's. It was just him and his guitar singing Cowboy songs.

Next up Chicago Jazz Festival..
If anyone is in the Detroit area, it's a great weekend for FREE live music downtown at the Detroit Jazz Festival. We caught Herbie Hancock last night and are looking forward to Dave Brubeck, Pancho Sanchez and organissimo today.
And tonight ... Medeski Martin & Wood along with John Scofield!!

Just saw Wilco play at the Filmore in Denver and they smoked the place!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Acoustics were ok, but they played with a ton of fire, emotion, and drive.
I was especially impressed by the guitar play of Nels, Jeff, and Pat. This trio was able to do everything from acoustic guitar work to some flaming electric guitar that was lightning fast! :guitar:
Can't wait to see them again tomorrow night.
George
especially jerry on slide guitar
...I don't know for sure who was playing but somebody tells me it's Buddy Guy's little brother. I don't much care. Beer is a buck. It's packed with enthusiastic patrons, and I'm hearing some electric blues when my wife leans over and cups my ear and says "why he f*** did you wanna bring me to a shithole like this for?". The esthetics of the moment escaped her, obviously, so I packed her off in a cab to the Ambassador East for a nitecap at the Pump Room. I went, too. But I was tempted not to.
I was at the last night of Winwood and Clapton at The Garden tonight and it was great. Two of of the best living rock musicans with only three back up players on a very small stage with no dancers, explosions, wild video ect. This is how live music should be, and hopefully will catch on with today's younger players. It was very special to see a concert where the music was the main reason 16,000 people gathered for the night. Both Clapton and Winwood played their hearts out, truly a great night.
I'm with you on that.... 8)
Thanks for that Chris. I hope they do a DVD, it would be a keeper.
Tonight I had the extreme privilege of sitting in the front row of Box 2 at Severance Hall and hearing Rimsky-Korsokov's Scheherazade (and a Cello concerto by Dvorak) done proudly by my Cleveland Orchestra.
Return To Forever at the Fox in St. Louis on 6-17. Fantastic!
Saw Mark Knopfler last night. The show was good, although the vocals sounded a bit muddy. Maybe it's me but I think he's starting to show his age, he is 60 after all. It wasn't necessarily a short set by any means. It went 2hrs. His guitar playing is still simply outstanding. The parts of the show I found lacking were actually with the Dire Staits songs, most of which he spoke the lyrics more than sang. It almost felt like he wanted to get the lyrics out of the way so he could concentrate on the solos. Of course, part of it could be that I am much more a Dire Straits fan than a fan of his solo work. Don't get me wrong his solo albums are still very good, just given the choice I would grab Love Over Gold or Dire Straits to listen to on any given day over Kill To Get Crimson or Shangri-La.
Saw the Cult on Wednesday night here in DC. The band sounded absolutely fantastic and tight. It was a great show. I put the set list below and a link to a Youtube Video.

Austin City Limits on Sunday night. You gettin around real good there, Se7en. Get ready for March! A slight correction to your post Mr. Toobluvr...the Bearsville Theater is in Bearsville, NY.
I saw the David Bromberg Quartet, backed by David's wife Nancy's Angel Band, last Saturday. Dave still picks the blues like nobody else! Nancy & the ladies were great as the opening act, then they were on with the quartet for the last few numbers. I sure hope I'm kicking as strong when I hit 70!
Last night at the Variety in Atlanta we caught Chick Corea and John McLaughlin Five Peace Band with Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett, and Brian Blade. Fabulous! A few songs seemed academic, a little bit of noodling around for each others' amusement, but most songs were good to great. And the final song, prior to their encore, was absolutely ecstatic! These dudes cook with GAS! Phenomenal! Is there a better rhythm section on the planet? I doubt it. Christian McBride may be my second most favorite bass player of all time now (Scott LaFaro still reigns for me). The only one I hadn't heard of was the drummer, Brian Blade. No worries here - this guy is fantastic! He drove them all night long - what a performer! I cannot believe there could be other jazz drummers better than this man. Kenny and John - solid. Chick - creative, wonderful, and unflappable, as usual. A real treat. A must see. :thumb:

The Rialto has been restored with extensive floor to ceiling sound absorption on the walls and a new state of the art sound system. The sound was very clear, natural and non-fatiguing.
Rialto Theater stage with 16 – JBL Vertec 4888 DP-AN speakers (8 per side)
Its funny. I recently read on a pro audio forum that the Vertec is commonly known in the pro world to be the one the harshest sounding speakers made. That seems in quite contradiction to what you heard.

The ticket prices were the best $63 bucks for the entire weekend or $33 a day. And yes it's all in one venue, basicly too much to see, it's huge! If the line up is as good next year I'll go again. Man what a good time. :guitar: :drums: :banana piano:  :wine:  :notworthy:
GOtta love NY for the freebees...Yesterday on my way home, I caught the NY Philharmonic performing Mozart Symphony No.41 in C major, K.551, Jupiter

Am going to have to look up Silversun Pickups on Youtube. I really wanted to see them today but it was my anniversary and there wasn't really anyone else I cared to see. It would have been another $100, which is a little too steep for one act.

My wife and I saw the Twinkle Brothers at Moes Alley in Santa Cruz on 9/27/09 and we are going to see Dark Star Orchestra tomorrow night in Santa Cruz (where they will be doing an acoustic show).
Going to see Renaissance this Friday evening with my two daughters (13 and 16). They love this music as much as I do.

Greg, loved it. I was expecting one set of acoustic music and was pleasantly surprised when the whole night was acoustic.
Going to see The Felice Brothers tonight in Boston
It was a good Felice show last Thursday but unfortuately is was GREATLY overshadowed by The Dirty Projectors EPICNESS two nights earlier.
I will say that I am starting to hate the Felice "pattern" of their shows. One up, one down, one up, one down.
Saw Them Crooked Vultures last night.
Great band & fantastic show!
If you're not familiar with these guys, it's Dave Grohl's latest side project/"supergroup" w/  John Paul Jones, and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age). I was blown away by Dave Grohl's drumming - he's monster! JPJ looked to be having a blast playing with these guys.
I am going to Ani on the 30th!!
ray lamontagne at the Beacon, NYC......
Well, last night, I bought two 6th row, center-stage floor tickets for Eric Clapton in KC on 3/3. Didn't even know he was coming until last night, so I had to pay a premium for these. . . But, I'm a big fan, so I'm sure it'll be worth it.
Will be my 3rd time seeing Clapton. Last time was in 2002 or 2003.
Paul
Ray Lamontagne was excellent...he just belts out every song with everything he's got...he's got a good banter between songs too....sort of Neil Young like...the beacon is a fun place to see a show...no bad seats....

went to see Lenny Kaye At Main street Jukebox., The Local Record Store, The young Lady painted Lenny why he played :thumb:
Thank' Mandy, for the Pic.
Not a lot of love for what these guys are doing lately. They just reissued "3 to the power of three" which was a 1988 release, and people are seeing why noone ever heard of the album before. It basically sucks from all reviews. For a group that was definitely on the front line in the day they sure aren't capitalizing on the popularity of the old stuff as much as many other groups are.
On another note, I took my daughter to a show this weekend as part of her birthday present (she's turning 17). Saw The Musical Box. Yup, she's an old Genesis fan and that's what this band does best ... recreate the original Genesis shows. They were featuring the Trick of the Tail album, but also played quite a few other gems. My daughter was actually crying for the entire Suppers Ready song, because that's her favorite song and she never thought she would get to hear it live.
I got a big hug after the show with an exclaimation "that's the best birthday gift ever". I guess I hit it right this time 'round.
RUSTED ROOT NEW YEARS EVE  :thumb:

They kind of muffed the countdown but the show was outstanding !! Always fun to bring in the New Year with one of your favorite bands.
If you never heard them check them out online or buy one of their cd's. Great tribal rock jam band :green: and ALWAYS fantastic in concert !!
Todd
We saw a deep & darkly beautiful Mary Gauthier show tonight at the Crepe Place in Santa Cruz. She performed all the songs from her new & unreleased "The Foundling" album and a number of others. It's her first concept. She paid tribute to Willie Nelson and his "Red Headed Stranger" for being her favorite concept album & providing inspiration. Great show.
This is what I like to hear since I am seeing her in April with the Cowboy Junkies :thumb:
Peggy, sounds like a great show.

Dang, Dreyer, nobody need ever tell you that you need to get out more! Way to go!

Cowboy Junkies this past Saturday at the wonderful old Ohio Theater here in Cleveland. Margo and the boys were great! Their sound is in a real nice place now; very bluesy again.

When is Pink Martini playing in Austin?
If they were good enough for you to drive to Austin we may make a road trip as well.
I'm tied up the first weekend in June but the rest of June looks good.

Like a lot of veteran performers with a deep catalog of music to draw on, he treats the audience to a lot of his best songs and a few from the new album. Recommended if you like no frills good songs with smart lyrics. This picture is not from his latest. I just like it a lot.
Band of Horses
The Independent, SF
They enjoyed the enthusiastic SF crowd. The best show so far out of my three times seeing them. Couldn't get up close for this one. I was about 10 rows back.

I am definitely green jelly :green: Band of Horses has become one of my favorite bands. After listening to Infinite Arms 3 times in a row, all three releases I own entered heavy rotation. Looks like a road trip is in my future to see these guys live.
Thanks for the post
Happy Memorial Day, especially to all you veterans on AC :thumb:

R_Burke - Any comments on Susan & Derek? My wife & I will be seeing them in a few weeks in Red Bank NJ
Great Santana show last night at Jones Beach (I'm at work this morning and feeling tired). Steve Winwood opened and played very Traffic-oriented blues based music. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I found it a bit nostalgic.
Santana played for about 2 hours and kept the energy up the whole time. It was a bit draining overall, since there was little in terms of dynamic swings. It was a pretty awesome show to watch though. Dennis Chambers on drums - almost seemed a waste to use him there since he is one of 3 percussionists, and the drummers need to work together. He had little opportunity to "break out". He had 2 rappers come out in the beginning of the show - they only played one rap-oriented piece thank God. Winwood was brought out to play a Muddy Waters tune - surprise, since generally the 2 don't play together in the show.
A very good show overall and I finally got to see Santana live. He had a montage on screen behind the band at one point showing early concert photo's amid all of his album covers. I think I can identify about 80% of them on sight. He's had a lot of output over the years.
He had one big speach about loving everyone and letting the light shine forth, since we are all the love and the light. This cme right after a chant by the band of "A Love Supreme" (Carlos was also wearing a John Coltrane shirt for the show). A very spiritual man, apparently.

Show really took off IMO on Limelight with Camera Eye being the highlight of the album.
I am betting that Boz still has the vocal chops and would keep these boys in line.

Osbourne’s signing completes a long list of entertainers set to take the stage during the 9-day rally. Motley Crue, Scorpions, Disturbed, Kid Rock, The Doobie Brothers, ZZ Top, Orianthi, Tesla, Buckcherry, Stone Sour, and even Pee-wee Herman will be featured.Pee-wee Herman? At Sturgis? Perhaps the Four Horsemen are afoot?

Indigo Girls, one of my favorites, especially their more folkier side.
The Levon Helm Band with John Hiatt and the Combo at Wolf Trap. Levon fronts a powerhouse 13-piece rock'n'roll band. Emphasis on the roll. The band features Larry Campbell, daughter Amy Helm and her band Ollabelle (not billed as such), and a monster 5-piece horn section including the amazing Howard Johnson on baritone sax and tuba! To say nothing of Levon who can still play drums like he always did. This band delivered a great big ole slice of Americana, from New Orleans to Chest Fever. Unfortunately, Levon's voice was shot so he couldn't sing much, but the other singers were all quite good. John Hiatt gave us an hour of his master's clinic in songwriting (Drive South, Your Dad Did, Have a Little Faith in Me, The Open Road, The Tiki Bar is Open, and on and on and on). Hiatt joined the Helm band for "The Weight" and "I Shall Be Released". See them if they come to a town near you.

It was a fun day....
was at Newport Folk Festival on August 1, 2010 and it was incredible. :banana piano: :guitar: :drums:
I caught Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, The Avett Brothers, Richie Havens, Ben Sollee and Daniel Moore (Preservation Jazz Hall Band and Sarah Jarosz stepped in for a couple songs), The Felice Brothers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Levon Helms. Last song of the fest was Levon Helms I Shall Be Released and everyone joined him on stage. It was a very special moment in time and I hope he stays well and is with us for years to come.
As a bonus I managed to meet James Felice and he signed my tee and I have some very cool pics of me with him and Richie Havens was doing an autograph signing so I had him sign my tee and I had pics taken with him too. I am definitely there next year !!! 8)
I was at Lilith the day before which for me was no comparison to Newport but the Indigo girls were awesome!

Natalie Merchant at the Maryhill Winery Amphitheater, Goldendale WA, August 7, 2010.
The amphitheater is located on a bluff overlooking the Columbia River about 15 miles east of The Dalles OR, holds about 1,400 in the reserved section and another 4,000 on the tiered grass terrace. The sound system and acoustics of the venue are great. You can bring in 32 qt or smaller coolers with food and non-alchoholic beverages, and folding lawn chairs. Maryhill was voted WA State's top winery in 2009 and they sell very good wines by the bottle along with lots of food items, but no beer (it is a winery afterall) :eyebrows: I prefer the grass terrace genral admission seating where you can spread out.
Natalie was awesome, engaging and full of energy--great voice, friendly personality, superb stage pressence and a great dancer. Her voice range and power is jaw dropping. She performed for more than 2:45 including an 8 or 9 song encore that featured mostly 10,000 Maniac-era songs. The concert centered around her new album Leave Your Sleep which is a collection of songs she wrote from poetry for, about or by children she shared with her daughter during the first six years of her life. She showed an incredible range of style as she performed these songs in various styles. She also sprinkled in a few songs from Tiger Lily, Ophelia, and Motherland. She is accompanied by 8 terrific musicians (violin/fiddle, cello, guitar, stand up bass, accordian, percussion, mandolin, various woodwinds).
Easily the best concert I have seen this summer and Natalie may be better than at anytime in her career.

John Mellencamp & Bob Dylan at the Greyhound Prk & Event Center, Post Falls ID
(http://www.audiocircle.com/image.php?id=35054)
Mellencamp and his band were terrific--lots of energy and great rapport with the audience. While Dylan's band are very accomplished musicians, the Dylan potion of the concert was disappointing. It is almost impossible to understand his lyrics, even when you know them by heart, and I did not care for the new live renditions of some of my favorite Dylan songs like Memphis Blues Again, Lay Lady Lay, Tangled Up in Blue, Just Like a Woman, and Like a Rolling Stone.
awww....sorry to hear Dylan was eh....:wave: Hi VLII,
but hey VLI if u ever make it this way for a show or whatever let me know...i'm in!!! 8)
 Hi VLII,
I'll definitely take you up on your offer. Maybe we should find a show somewhere in the middle of the country and meet there :thumb:
Then I went to Roger's page and found out of his tours. (He authored and lead 39 of the 42 hit songs by the group) and found out there was this Epcot presentation but I fear it may be a background to the dining thing... It's Disney you know?
Gabe, personally, I would rather see Roger without Supertramp than "Supertramp" w/o Roger, ya know? And if I were in the area, I would go to the Epcot show since the chances of seeing him live again are probably slim. But yes, Disney is probably going to make it a pretty cheesy event... still worth it!

Saw Rusted Root in Pittsburgh Sunday for their annual Labor day show. They are my favorite live band and it was amazing as always (sound quality at this venue is poor, but it is all about the atmosphere).
The band stuck around for autographs & pics. I didn't have cash for a Tshirt so got Michael Glabicki to sign my arm. So here I was with 15 seconds to say anything I want to the leader of my favorite (live) band. And what did I say...?
"Can you try a little harder on the countdown at the New Year's Eve show this year? We were a little disappointed."
He gave me this look of wide-eyed humiliation and said "Was it really that bad?" Friend and I explained that the countdown was off, it was kind of anti-climactic (we were hoping for balloons, confetti, SOMETHING), and the song choice was... well... lame. But, hey, other than that, the show was great.

Caught Eilen Jewell at a small club Saturday night - www.eilenjewell.com
Her material and band is exceptional. I believe Eric Clapton referred to her guitarist as the best ever. Jerry Miller is a legend going back to his days in the 1960s with Moby Grape. He is worth seeing on his own.
Michael Glabicki & Patrick Norman
Rusted Root- Hartwood Acres, Pittsburgh, PA- 9/5/10
Already posted about the show... but just got the pic. Yes pic :( forgot batteries and had enough juice for only this one shot (and a few of the grass)
 I'm laughing because I've done that more than once, in fact I have a bunch that I call my "grass series."
LOL So I should save those things and do a show? The Grass Series, The Sky Series, The Thumb Series, Shoes, Heck if I Know. LOL
Sometimes the best art (as inventions) come about through mistakes and happy accidents!

Missed a lot of great acts this summer, hopefully to be corrected in 2011.
...the unvieling of a Frank Zappa bust at the library....
The new songs are really good but I didn't care for the heavier electric stuff he did solo
His new album came out today... (http://www.amazon.com/Noise-Neil-Young/dp/B003ZBJ0ZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1285737182&sr=1-1)
I can tell they're going to be good with his whole band but the solo renditions didn't do it for me.

I agree - I've heard the album.....solo - no go.....but with a group.... 8)
Try these two....
I really liked Le Noise, yes it's hard & noisy but it's a different Neil Young and it's a well done recording,, sounded great on my system. It's going in the Magnum tomorrow. :guitar:

at Key Arena, Seattle WA, 9/29/10 :thumb:
This was one of the best high energy rock concerts I have seen in a while (and I attend a lot of concerts). With the exception of one song, the entire Arena was on their feet during the concert. Arcade Fire's music really came alive and I have a much greater appreciation for their songs and their talent. Everyone in the band plays more than one instrument and plays them well
Calexico from Tucson AZ was a very good opening act. Southwestern rock with a Mexican flavor. WGH turned me on to them when I was in Tucson earlier this year.
Highly recommended!
Friday night saw the English band James @ the Wonder Ballroom. One of the best starts to a show I've seen in a long time. They had the trumpet player start off in the balcony, and the lead singer & the guitarist (well, one of the two) were in the back of the venue. They began one of their classics "Sit Down" and made their way through the crowd playing the song. The rest of the band assembled on stage and the full band was going on the final 1/3 of the song.Fantastic show all around! They did a good mix of older classics and newer songs.
If your not sure who James is, here's the song you probably know...

Roger was fabulous!!!

Last show I was at would have been the John Butler Trio a few weeks back in a 1500 seater here on the bald prairie - absolutely outstanding and highly recommended if you get the chance to check them out. I was first introduced to JBT when they appeared in the Australian Live Earth concert where they rocked a stadium and they are a much better live act now than they were then. They're still trying to break in the North American market and here's hoping because it is such a treat to hear and see a band which has the tunage and the chops. John Butler has got to be one of the most underappreciated guitarists around right now.Make sure you tell the engineer to insert and hide a compressor backwards in the rack to limit the pa systems out put or Motorheads engineer will blow the mains. Thats his job! I ran the Ballard Firehouse a few years back and tried to protect our gear. At one point the engineer had all of our Allen Heath 40 channel boards level sliders maxed out including the mains output and all treble mid and bass controlls cranked but could not get by my hidden compressor. Durring this time Lemmy screamed "Do you hear that sound? Thats the death of a P.A."
Next up : Motorhead at the same venue in February - not for everyone but if you loves the rawk as I do, you should see that band once. Wear earplugs. Earplugs made of concrete. I saw them a few years back at the same venue and they had more PA on stage as sidewash monitors than most acts use in there to fill the whole theater. Lemmy is truly a force of nature.

I saw The Decemberists in Boston and thought they were great. They sang many songs off the new CD, though, which I did not listen to before I went. The songs were great, however. After listening to the CD, I like it the best of any of their CDs. They are quite a talented band, and his voice is much more powerful in concert.

It would have been very nice to hear them in person, as I have really grown to like them (especially their latest album). Their latest effort sounds a lot like earlier REM in parts and that is a good thing in my book.

+1 for last night's Decemberists show :thumb:
Great version of "The Rake Song" and how much fun was "The Mariner's Revenge Song"...
Friday night was Little Dragon, sold out two nights at The Independent, SF. They premiered some new music from their upcoming album. Just great.
(big snip)
Crap!! I somehow missed the fact that they played a couple nights in Boston. :duh:

Great pics Laura :thumb:
I saw The Decemberists at The Beacon Theater ... it was a dynamite show!
But after the show...UGH! I drove back from Manhattan to Long Beach in a wicked blizzard :o
it took four hair raising hours to get home and I had to get up for ework the next morning. That'll learn me for not taking the train :duh:
David Gray at the INB Performing Arts Center in Spokane WA on March 5, 2011. It was a great show. Excellent musicians in a concert hall with outstanding acoustics and a new sound system. :thumb: David showcased his new album and played a lot of old favorites. A young Irish lady, Leslie O'Neill opened. She reminded me of the 60's troubadors like Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell, but her songs were more whimiscial.

Nigil Olsson has been his drummer since day 1, 42 years,
On Tuesday night I saw Iron & Wine at the HOB in Boston. He put on a great show and the band he has now was really good. Everything still focused on him and his voice but witht he added texture of the band. Two mellow thumbs up!

Maria Muldaur and her Bluesiana Band at Biscuits and Blues in SFO. Maria was hot, as always, the band was fabulous, and I think B&B is one of the best, if not THE best music club in town. There isn't a bad seat in the house.I getta chance, you can be sure I will check it out. Carolyn Wonderland was the last for me, but am seeing Bill Frisell Quartet next Friday night.
Glad to hear the Curran is alive and well. Still on Geary? Saw Segovia there when I was around 18 and it was my first exposure to good acoustics which has stayed with me. A few musicals after that like Stop The World I Want To Get Off with Joel Grey in the lead.Yep still on Geary St. Theater is in very good condition. Has never been renovated.
Bill Frisell's current quartet last night. Very enjoyable. His 'East/West' is likely my next purchase.
then a week later alejandro escoveda.
I know what you folks mean about the sound at stadium shows. The U2 extravaganza rolls through here real soon and I won't be there. If I want to experience a great big thing off in the distance making a loud unintelligible sound and flashing lights at me, I'll go hang out at the airport...
D.D.
It was a great show! Already the highest grossing show ever. Going again next Saturday in Seattle after seeing Buffalo Springfield in Oakland on the 2d. :thumb:

Hi : Don't get me wrong - no disrespect intended towards either U2 or your appreciation thereof. I just don't like stadium concerts in general.

Buffalo Springfield at the Fox Theater in Oakland CA, June 2, 2011. Terrific concert. It was clear that Neil, Richie and Steve were having a lot of fun playing together and playing Buffalo Springfield songs again. The final encore of Neil's Rockin in the Free World had a bunch of 50 and 60 year olds on their feet rockin like they were in their 20s again

One of the cool unexpected things for me about the concert was an aspect of David Rawlings & Gillian Welch's guitar playing. On some songs, the guitar work and tone reminded me of a piano being played. She was playing the left hand and he the right.
Len,
Bob, Millie & I were having a drink at the Moss Beach Distillery enjoying the ocean view when I read your post on my iPhone. All three of us whole heartedly agree that you described Gillian and David's playing perfectly. That was a real bonus treat to have them play.
It was great to see you and meet Ben & Gavin. I enjoyed the day in Santa Cruz. Thanks for the tour and your hospitality. Remind Ben to email me. Bob took me to Absolute vinyl in San Mateo on Friday. Great store and a great owner.

Music of the Civil Rights Movement
Featuring Geri Allen, Art Baron, Steve Bernstein, Steve Cardenas, James Carter, Rosanne Cash, Carla Cook, Helga Davis, Curtis Fowlkes, Brad Jones, Briggan Krauss, Eric Mingus, JD Parran, Toshi Reagon, Lou Reed, Todd Rundgren, Tao Seeger, James Staten, Jason Walker, Kenny Wollesen
the band that predates Swedish-Argentine singer José González’s solo stardom, conjures an expansive and mesmerizing take on his songs in which “González’s classical guitar and weightless tenor float over soul jazz, Afrobeat, Ethiopian funk and krautrock.”Very trippy music, I will be looking to purchase some of their albums.
Steely Dan at the WAMU Theater, Seattle WA, 7-2-11. This was the first leg of their tour. If you get a chance to see them, DO IT! http://steelydan.com/ They played for about 2 1/2 hours. It was a great show and the band is really, really tight. Everyone a great musician. Lots of songs from Aja and throughout their catelog--some new and lots of older songs.

I have a pair of 4th row seats for one of their shows in Boston in September. Good to hear that they still put on a good show and play for a good amount of time.
I'll try and take some pics and post when the time comes.

Eddie Vedder and Glen Hansard at the Arlene Snitzer concert hall in Portland Oregon. Absolutly phenomanal. Both musicians were top notch! Eddie and Glen did a unpluged version of sleepless nights on the front of the stage. Also preformed was a rare singing of Arc. Wounderful acoustics.
Saw Zappa Plays Zappa and Return To Forever IV at the Fox Theater in St. Louis. A dream bill if there ever was one!
I have seen them many times since the late 70's ,the last time being last year in Towson MD. they are as good live today as they ever were :thumb: in fact the musicians are some of the finest ever to play progressive rock. kind of similar to some of the later King Crimson music but with much better lyric's
Went to see Phish last night at MSG and they just bout RIPPED the roof off the garden. First set was rocking from start to finish. A gem of a show with the first lifeboy since 09. Beautiful Loving Cup for encore. Jammed for 3 hrs, one of the best show Ive ever seen. I was behind the stage but second row, felt like I was in a much smaller venue and acoustics were amazing.
Goin NYE for the three set extravaganza. :thumb: Went last year, best NYE party i've ever been too. Hoping they can match thurs. Wish I was goin tonite but the rest will be nice.
My wife is taking me to Martin Sexton in Little Rock AK in February for my bday abd that is going to be EPIC.
Laura scores again with primo seats!
Great story Laura!
Wish stuff like that would happen around here.
Jeff is looking more than a little scruffy...how did they sound? How long did they play?
George
Yeah, I LOVE Donald Fagen but he is touring (Cleveland middle of August) with Michael McDonald and Boz Scaggs as the Dukes of September. They don't even do much of their own material!! I'm hesitant. His solo show 4 yrs ago at one of Cleveland's best older theaters was excellent; beyond expectations. But youtube videos of this geezer-super-group has me wondering.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnn6wqNDJTo
..... Good times except for the 40+ washed up cupid dolls "dancing" in front of me acting like they were the center of the universe and still 18. Gag! I don't know how I liked them when I was in the teens.... :duh:
GregC,
How was the Hot Tuna show?
The show was awesome. They played almost 3 hours with a short intermission. Seeing them play an acoustic show lets you appreciate what good musicians they are.
Seen 'em many times over the years in all forms: electric, acoustic, solo Jorma.
Never disappointed, always a good show! :thumb:
The venue, crowd energy, and performance were all top notch. One of my favorite vinyl albums is Jorma – Quah, so the performance was reminiscent of that type of sound.
I also enjoyed the banter on stage. When Jack Cassidy drank some water, Jorma said, "Don't worry take your time. Try not to over-hydrate unless you are wearing your Depends."
Nice backstage access at Red Rocks DaveC113!
devo a couple nights ago, great show!I saw them a few nights ago (along with Blondie). They rocked.
Peter Gabriel at the Wells Fargo center in Philadelphia Friday night. I've seen him many many times, and this show was absolutley sublime.
Went to the Riot Fest in Chicago. Built to Spill, Jesus and Mary Chain, Elvis Costello, Gogol Bordello, Larry and His Flask, NoFx, The Adicts, lots and lots of stuff. Great three day event.
Paul
And wow what a run of music I have seen live recently. Here's the list of highlights from the past 10 days:
Glen Hansard
Iron & Wine
Corin Tucker
Wilco
Jesus & Mary Chain
Elvis Costello
Iggy Pop
David Bryne and St Vincent
And that stretch was followed by a basement punk show last Wednesday by the Hysterics out of the Pacific North West where I bruised a rib.
The Who in DC Nov 13. Quadrophenia and then a bunch of other songs like Who are you, Pinball Wizard and Baba O'Riley among others. Fantastic show. Daltrey sounded better than 30 years ago on their farewell tour. The sound mix was just right with music and vocals in good balance. And it was not too loud. :thumb:
Henry Threadgill returns to Roulette for the world premiere of “Dimples”, a new work for his ground breaking group, ZOOID, plus a four person brass section. Hailed by the New York Times as “one of the most thrillingly elusive composers in and around the jazz idiom”, Threadgill is one of the great musical masterminds of the past quarter century – a composer, arranger, and innovator who transcends genres in contemporary music.” Featuring Liberty Ellman (acoustic guitar), Jose Davila (trombone and tuba), Elliot Humberto Kavee (drums) and Zachary Lober (bass), Christopher Hoffman (cello), Ben Gerstein (trombone), Jacob Garchik (trombone), Stephanie Richards (trumpet) and Jonathan Finlayson (trumpet).(http://dev.roulette.org/assets/Threadgill1.jpg)
Just got home from Leonard Cohen at Radio City. Played for well over 3 hours with an intermission. Not bad for a 78 year old. Gives Bruce something to shoot for when he's that old.
Cowboy Junkies, April 28 at the Bing Crosby Theater, Spokane WA. Terrific show! The first set were songs from their 4 new albums in The Nomad Series and after a short break, they performed The Trinity Sessions in its entirety followed by a two song encore that included Neil Young's Powderfinger.
That does sound terrific! and also sounds like a very long show!
A few of us met up for Steve Wilson at the Best Buy theater in NYC this past Friday night.
He started the hour long set with "Sharon" and then did a lot of blues.

Went to the Eagles concert last night with a lovely lady friend at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Sold out show and they rocked the house, bringing it down over and over with a history of their hits. It was The History of the Eagles Tour after all. The band is still so very tight, all the cues and all the notes so perfectly right on, they don't sound the least bit like an old band. Vocally Fry and Walsh did take one song to warm up, and were spot on perfect after that, Henley was awesome right out of the gate. It was fun, a great mix of their songs, a couple of improvisations, maybe a slight excess of Walsh's single hits, but everybody loves him anyway so it just made it more fun. Four encores with Desperado ending the show, I was nearly in tears, best show I've seen in years, highly recommended if tickets can be had in your area.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up on her! :thumb:
Here's the first song I found:
Rachael Price - "Dedicated to You"
old timer Alan White on the drums as well. The "new"members are Jon Davison (great singer, very similar to jon anderson) and Geoff Downes (decent keyboard, not a virtuoso like rick Wakeman)

Trombone Shorty was awful? Huh, I've always liked what I've heard on the radio.
Maybe he was just having an off night?
Hi Laura - Did Grace and the rest of the band beat on the drums together on one of their encore songs?

The New Pornographers at the Gothic Theater in Englewood CO on Saturday night. Supported by a young New York band called The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. They were pretty good. They have one album and it's out in vinyl so I bought it. Guitar pop. TNP were outstanding, both Dan Bejar and Neko Case were there.

Hi Laura,
If I knew TNP was playing in CO I would have attended RMAF this year. The Pains... have been around for about ten years. They have two previous albums and an EP before their new release this year. I have their self-titled 2005 album and saw them play two years ago at the Bowery Ballroom. Sounds like a great concert Saturday night and hope you had a good time at RMAF. See you next year at the show.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi Paul,
I missed seeing you at RMAF. I was not aware that the Pins had another album. I saw a EP CD they were selling but opted for the vinyl of their new album. The venue is an art deco era former movie theater. When I was young we would go to the Gothic to see Saturday cartoons and a movie. The removed the seats so it is a SRO venue with a few seats in the balcony. The concert was well worth it although it didn't start until 9 and it was 12:30 by the time I got back to the hotel.
Laura
Hi Laura,
Sounds like a nice place to see a concert. If I remember before I go to RMAF next year, I'll check out the concert schedule in and around Denver. Glad it was a good concert.
Paul
Adrien Belew is 65. The guys in Black Sabbath are older.
That is not a very advanced age! :o
String Cheese Incident @ Lincoln Theater Tuesday November 4th. Crowd was REALLY into it - I believe both nights sold out. They played hard for something like 3.5 hrs with a short break in between. I was a bit "jam band-ed" out by the end, but that takes nothing away from the stunning performance and a surprisingly good light show. They managed to mix it up pretty well and not get too stale. Better than the Phish concert I saw the year before. Though everyone stood, you did always have a seat to plunk down on and that was better than having stoners fall over you at an outdoor lawn concert.
Venue was good with decent booze selection and acoustics / sound mixing. Though from the smell of the place, people seemed much more into other recreational substances.
Last night 1/24/15 Casting Crowns at Carnegie Hall with a 200+ choir and the True North Symphony Orchestra. :thumb:

Very Cool! I wish they would put their music on vinyl. :D
They were great and my wife had to have St. Vincent's album. Unfortunately the album is so warped that I will only play it on a cheap cartridge. :( It looks like a large mountain range but the Shure M97xE does sweat it. :)
I've checked that out, but it looked like an infomercial too good to be true item. You recommend it? Do you use the oven or their "groovy pouch"?
Thanks,
Jason
Lowpfile , your concert photography is insane !!! :thumb:I was thinking the same exact thing. :o. :notworthy:
Nightwish (with Delain) at Buffalo's Town Ballroom. Floor Jansen was remarkable. Like she was destined for this role. So fortunate they decided to come here...you don't see bands of this caliber in such a small venue. Nightwish truly deserves their world ranking in their metal genre.

Built to Spill at the Bunkhouse Saloon, Las Vegas 4-20-15. Terrible phone pictures, but a great show in a small dive bar.
Last week, I saw The Jesus and Mary Chain doing the entire Psycho Candy album live at The Warfield, SF. From the first balcony the sound was not great to me. I think I need to stay out of the balcony, especially for amplified Rock music. But they played really tight and sounded like classic TJAMC!
Hey.
We'll I just saw the Grateful Dead in Santa Clara on the second night and it was a blast. This is the kinda of show that you go to with very little hope that it's gonna be great and just go with it. It really was a lot of fun with a few very good moment s. Just as a full disclosure I have seen them over 200 times.
Next up just a couple of weeks ago I saw the Stones in Buffalo and it was fun but I was less then impressed.
With all that being said I have been very lucky in my life to have seen almost all of the bands I have wanted to see in my life and worked with most.
Life is good.

RUSH was in fine form last night @ the Moda Center, Portland, OR :thumb:
I saw Rush last night (July 25) at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas on their R40 tour. Still great musicians! :drums: :guitar:
Joe Ely at McGonigel's Mucky Duck in downtown Houston - 17 October 15
Solo performance (like a lot of the shows at the Mucky Duck) and one of the reasons why I keep coming back. I LOVE this venue. The acoustics are great and there isn't a bad seat in the house. We were about three feet from the stage. He played a few songs off of his new album but surprisingly most of the songs were requests from the crowd. People would say a song when the last one ended, he'd pick at his guitar for a second, tell a story about the song, then play it as if he wrote it that morning. I never saw a show like that. It was pretty awesome to watch.
Our seats:

To add to the pvs note, the Duck in Houston is a great venue. I've seen 20-30 shows there.
Bruce on March 24 in Seattle for me. Can't wait--my favorite Springsteen album most of the time.:thumb: :thumb: haha! The second half of the album gets the most play here.

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, The River Tour, March 24, 2016, Key Arena, Seattle WA. An incredible almost 4 hour show without a break--they never left the stage. Peal Jam's Eddie Vedder joined them to help sing Bobby Jean.Four hours without leaving the stage! Those are some rock veterans. Can't wait until April 13th to see Pearl Jam in Tampa. Go Eddie Vedder! :thumb:

Weds night: Puscifer

4/1: Scale the Summit & Intronaut

That was just the last two weeks and I have a lot more this month and next lined up. I love going to see live shows.
Adele at Oracle Arena last night. I know she's not very popular here, but she puts on an excellent show while being very personable, engaging and interactive. Her voice is just amazing. She had me at 'Hello.'
Yonder Mountain String Band at the Golden State Theater in downtown Monterey (Thursday 3/30/17). They were incredible and played until the theater shut down. Lil' Smokies that opened also tore it up.I really like Yonder Mountain String Band. They're fantastic. I'd love to see them live!

Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Wheels of Soul Tour: Is this the best tour of the summer?
Heads-up Vinyl Lady. The tour is also playing Red Rocks.
I dunno, I didn't do anything other than click the button and upload through the editor. Maybe there's some JPEG metadata that tells AC the orientation? Are you taking pictures with your phone?
My pictures looked a lot better in full res, but at least it gives a flavor. Too bad AC doesn't have a 'click to expand' feature.

Cyril "Sonny" Moorman is an American power blues guitarist. His style is sometimes compared to that of the Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Lonnie Mack, Gov't Mule, and occasionally Warren Haynes.
