With my 26 I went R+L XLR cables out of 26 an Y's on each side that went to each mono block and sub.
I see that sub is line level(RCA) or speaker level,I imagine you could use an adapter from XLR to RCA.

Just use the RCA preamp outputs to the stereo inputs on the sub. I have an SP1 which I will likely be selling and I use it in a 2.1 system myself. It has both pre-out as well as a sub out with crossover function plus many other set-up options not found in the stereo only preamps. For two channel sound, even with a sub or a pair of subs, set-up is just the same as with a stereo preamp. That is that the main outputs can be used as sub outputs, you just have to use the crossover on the sub to control the frequency balance in room.

The BP-26 has only Balanced out(XLR) I believe.

HI,

The BP26 has 2 sets of stereo RCA outs as well as 1 set of stereo XLR outs.

Hi,

Just to make sure I've got this straight. I have a BP26 using XLR out into a pair of 28b sst2's. If I want to add a sub I can just run an RCA L&R out simultaneously? I don't have to move all outputs to RCA right?

Thanks

A Bryston 10-b sub crossover will do a better job than y-splits and provides a much more controllable solution, with it's support for a dedicated mono sub. It is more expensive than Y-leads, but then there's no risk of reducing the separation between the L and R feeds, plus you'll get full control of the crossover settings, and you'll remove the bass load on your power amplifier, enabling higher spls.

Hi

Yes you can hook it up that way but it is a FULL range signal being sent to the Sub - so crossover frequency and rolloff and level have to be controlled from the Sub controls.

Also the mains are still running full range frequencies as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Based on the info, I'm not sure I'll take the risk of the new sub though - it may sound a bit muddied without the crossover, and too expensive with. Saves me having another difficult conversation with my wife anyway.  :thumb:

If the sub is designed to go with the mains, then would the crossover function match their roll-off? There may be a specific setting from the manufacturer for this purpose.
