MQA?

I don't know if this was discussed here before, but will the BDP be able to handle this new format? I heard a demonstration a while back, and was quite flabbergasted...

Hi Anonamemouse

Yes the BDP-2 is capable of decoding MQA (as well as our new BDA-3 DAC) as we use the XMOS chip which is what MQA requires.  There is a lot of discussion over on this side of the pond though pro and con so we are going to adopt a wait and see policy at this point.

What about BDP-1?

Hi

No sorry - the BDP-1 does not use the XMOS chip.

Hi James how about the BDA-2?

Hi James how about the BDA-2?

No sorry the BDA-2 does not use the XMOS either.  Only the BDA-3.

But just to be clear we are not rushing into MQA - there is still much to be discussed regarding the value of yet another format.

I've always been suspicious of special demonstrations.  Meridian is a quality company, but my first thought of such demonstrations goes to Bose.

Hi James!

But I was under the impression that XMOS is exactly what the BDA-2 uses. What chip does BDA-2 use then?

Also, if you play MQA through BDP-2 with the BUC board and conect it via AES to BDA-2, would it work?

Cheers!

Hi Antun

I will check with engineering on the XMOS for you - you may be correct but not sure on the software requirement on the BDA2.

I have never tried that so not sure if the MQA on the BUC to the BDA2 would work.

Hi James!

Okay, please check with engineering and let me know.

Hi

I checked with engineering and the BDA2 does use an XMOS chip but it is an older version and can not accommodate MQA.

Hi James!

Thank you for the information!

Do you think BDP-2 with BUC could output it to BDA-2 via AES connection?

Cheers!
