JETHRO TULL AQUALUNG STEVEN WILSON MIX

Anyone know anything about this?

"Mastered from Steven Wilson's 40th Anniversary stereo mix from 2011"
Is this better than the Classic Records version?  Is it AAA or from digital?
Should I get one or avoid it?

Thanks Gene, I trust Fremer's reviews for the most part and I have found Steve Hoffman's forum to be a good source when comparing different versions.

I picked up the Wilson remaster of TAAB.  It is excellent.  He also did TAAB2.

I have the Mofi Aqualung and I have the Wilson on (gasp) CD.  The new one rules.

Is TAAB available at a  reasonable price?

Thanks for the Aqualung link, Laura!

Watch for these :

I got my copy from pop market (better price) and I think the pressings are good ones; my only copies of these LPs.

Good Luck,

Mark

I, too, got mine from PopMarket.  Very clean surfaces on TAAB, with a few minor clicks.  TAAB2 not as quiet, but certainly acceptable.  And if you get a real clinker, they will take care of you.

I have an original TAAB, the remaster is much better.

I listened to the new Aqualung yesterday, and I highly recommend it.

This reminded me to pull the trigger on both Aqualung and Thick as a Brick (1&2) which had been on my wishlist at Acoustic Sounds.  Looking forward to look back!

The Steve Wilson mix of Aqualung is very good and the pressing is excellent. Also, his mix of Benefit is highly recommended.

Laura,
Does that mean I should have skipped the $90 Thick as a Brick box set and gone for Benefit instead?

No, not at all. It just means I haven't heard the Wilson mix of TAAB. Benefit is my favorite Tull album followed by Stand Up and then Aqualung and TAAB.

And my order is:
Stand Up, TAAB, Benefit and Aqualung.

Same four records, though! :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

The Wilson Benefit is revelatory!

Just finished my first complete listen to the Steve Wilson mixed Aqualung. All I can say is WOW.  Really worth the $$ in my opinion.  Definitely worth considering, while they last...

Next up will be the 45 rpm Friday Music Yes album.

How did one band put out four such excellent, yet COMPLETELY different sounding albums one year after another? These are my favorite rock albums. In reality the music was written to be performed live, Tull's concerts were where the music lived and breathed, in fact I view the albums as toned-down souvenirs of those amazing performances forty some years ago.
If you want to hear a fine example of a Tull concert, the new Minstrel box has a very well recorded concert from Paris July 5, 1975. Even though this was a couple of years past their best years, it's very representative of how they sounded live in their prime.
