Error 09 on Bryston BDP-2 after SSD Installation
« on: 26 Aug 2015, 05:52 pm »
I installed an SSD inside my Bryston BDP-2 digital player but when I power it on, I get Error 09. If I remove it (disconnect it), the unit powers on just fine. What does this error mean?

Hi Samurai7595,

I had this exact issue with a Samsung SSD in a BDP2. I reconnected the drive to my Mac, formatted it to MS-DOS (I believe that you must also choose Master Boot Record for an internal BDP2 drive), ejected it when done and reinstalled it in the BDP2. The second attempt worked like a charm and I was then able to format the disc to EXT3 using the format utility within Manic Moose. No further issues.

So I suspect there was an issue with the initial formatting of your hard drive.

Hope I helped!

It means that your BDP is trying to boot from your SSD rather than the CF card that holds MM

The BDP has its own format  routine that also copies some files to your SSD to stop the BDP  from trying to boot from it.  Of course catch 22 is that, unless you are using a brand  new unformatted drive, you can't get to that point because the BDP won't boot properly!

I'd try Dave's  suggestion.
