have never heard of the latter; anyone want to shed light on whether or not it's any better?

Thanks!

I believe EDR was introduced in BT 2.0.  I'm not any kind of expert on BT, but I don't know of any audio codec that used EDR.
Qualcomm has added AptX HD and Sony developed LDAC for BT and gave the codec to Android.  I think Oreo will have LDAC capability.  Of course, currently only some Sony products support LDAC.  I guess we'll see if it takes off - it does offer some bandwidth improvements and codec efficiencies.  As to whether any of these are "better", I guess it depends on what you start with as a source file for BT and how critical you are when listening.
