I searched the SP3 manual online and this forum and couldn't turn up anything about what/when the HDMI Cable EQ setting does or should be adjusted. 

Anyone have any input? I'm still on the original HDMI board (no 4K).

I have the original SP3 - with the original HDMI-board, too.
I don't know about a HDMI Cable EQ setting.
Please could you tell more about it.

It's under:

Source -> Other -> HDMI CABLE EQ (options are "HIGH" and "LOW"). I have NO idea what they do and can't find it in the literature via a search.

I have no idea myself but I will ask Stan when I get in today.

OK I spoke with Stan and the setting affects the impedance and does some equalization depending on the HDMI cable used.  The longer cables will usually benefit from the higher setting as it boosts the high frequency content of the video signal. So try both settings and see if you notice a difference with less noise in the picture.

With the new 4K board in the SP3 this function is handled automatically.

I'm still holding out for a 4K board with more HDCP 2.2 inputs. I figure until I get a 4K player, TV, and content, I can wait and hope.
