High Sensitivity 28B3 cube amp
« on: 28 Jun 2021, 01:50 am »
I have two 28B SST3 (cubed) amplifiers. The input sensitivity is so great that most preamps (including mine) can't use but about a third of their volume range. I have heard that Bryston didn't put in a switch to lower the sensitivity because it would have compromised the sound. Is that true? Has Bryston solved this problem by now? Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks.

HI Simm

That is correct the safety certification would not allow for a switch on this powerful an amplifier.  The gain in the amp is 28dB which is average for most amplifiers.

I do not know what preamp you have but I would ask the manufacturer if you can lower the gain in the preamplifier.

I was confused because you said they there were set at 29 when I asked, when I couldn't find the gain switch that doesn't exist on the 28's.
