Title: Amanero Combo384 USB Firmware Upgrade?
Post by: doak on 24 Jul 2017, 04:52 pm
Any news on possible upgrade via re-flash?
My Auralic Aries runs Linux and should benefit.

I am waiting for the answer as well, although for my Microrendu.

Hi Doak,

We're only a couple of days away from the new firmware, but IIRC, don't you use a DSD128 module in your DAC?

Fred

That is correct Fred.
My benefit at this time, if it really is one, is doing Native DSD.

Native DSD for my goldengate would be nice.

Very soon.  They new firmware should be out, but I was told there is a PID issue (not sure what that is) and the first attempts left DSD un-usuable for the moment.  Hoping Amanero brings us all some joy this week.

So, is the new firmware out of beta and good to go?

If I am reading this correctly, it has been released: https://github.com/lintweaker/xmos-native-dsd/issues/12.

Native 128 has been supported by the Amanero in Linux for a while.  The excitement is for native 256 and 512.   256 is working mostly stable in the betas we have tested, but 512 remains problematic.

So, I understand now that if I reflash my Amanero Combo384 USB Firmware (SN731) it will handle NATIVE DSD64 & 128.
Direction on just how to accomplish that will be much appreciated.

Perhaps i misread the post, I thought that even 512 was stable. I admit many of the nuances are lost on me.

So, Lukasz has kindly offered to flash the new firmware for me at RMAF (I live outside Denver). I am hoping that the new fw is stable for 512 by then.

Gopher, is it your understanding that the FW will be out of beta and ready for prime time (DSD 512) by RMAF? Please let me know. Thanks.

Oh, and perhaps, i should clarify, I play DSD 128 on my Atlantic DSD 512 capable dac with my Mircroendu in DOP mode. From the post, it sounds like 512 is stable for DOP playback. Is that correct? Is the only issue native?

Thanks for the input.

Unfortunately I can't speak as to finalized firmware.  Amanero is a third party vendor and while we obviously maintain good communication with them as we use their product in all of our dacs, we don't have direct control over their meeting of deadlines and they have missed them in the past.   I can say real progress was made and DSD256 is working pretty stably in Linux now.

You can indeed use DoP in linux, but my understanding is if you are not in native, the full benefit of 8xDSD won't be realized.

Doak,

I don't have instructions to give at this time.  When there is a stable firmware we will probably make the update available through our techs for a nominal fee, but in the meantime I can't instruct people to open their dacs to manually short their amanero boards and re-flash them with "pretty stable" beta firmware versions.

Understood.

So, I am sitting at my computer listening to native dsd 512 on my Atlantic streamed from a Microrendu NAA.

On Friday, Amanero finally formally released the long promised firmware that will permit playback of 512 with their dac chip when streaming with a linux NAA. As luck would have it, I live in Denver and RMAF is this weekend and Lampi (Lukasz, Fred and Rob) were all in attendance. Lukasz kindly took some time out from the show and flashed the chip and updated the firmware. Now, I am streaming 512 without a glitch. Sounds great, definitely quieter and richer sounding.

And, btw, the new Pacific sounds amazing. Even in a mediocre at best room, the dac sounds crystal clear and very natural. Very impressive.

And, the 512 is really sounding great. Just more of everything.

FWIW, playing 512 has got me playing with the HQP filters. I had used the xtr-2's when playing 128. I found that filter fatiguing with 512, it was almost like I could hear the ringing. At the moment, i am really enjoying minringFIR. Way better separation between instruments/vocals and more natural. Great presence. And, most importantly for me, not fatiguing.

@Shredder,
Does the final firmware upgrade allow use of both Windows and Linux?
Title: Re: Amanero Combo384 USB Firmware Upgrade?

I don't know about Windows, but this definitely allows use with Linux (my Microrendu is Linux based).

I thought that the previous firmware worked with Windows. With it, I was able to play 512 when I plugged my windows server directly into the dac by USB. Not sure if Windows NAA works, but I assume it would.

Anyone done this yet? It is pretty great. A serious improvement.

I am using minringFIR-mp filter with HQP.

Where do we stand with native DSD via Amanero/ Linux? Has there been an update since the last post on this thread? I am using an Sotm 200 ultra and an Atlantic Plus, and it would be nice to have native DSD. Is there as yet a stable version of the Amanero firmware that will accomplish this?

Thanks,
  Ron

Ron,

They aren't perfect, but 2002B is what the factory has most faith in for linux applications at this point in time.  I personally have been using 2003B_71A with pretty good results.  There will occasionally be a glitch, but in my own system it's manageable.

I do wish amanero would finalize the firmware....

Thanks very much for the update. I'm with you in wishing that Amanero would finish this project.

For me, the major issue with performing a firmware update is that it requires knowledge of windows audio. It would be great if there were instructions, starting from scratch, that would allow someone with a mac using bootcamp to set up just enough audio in bootcamp/ windows 10 to be able to follow the Amanero firmware update instructions.

So, I have been using the beta combo 384. Is 2002, 2003, and 2004, the new direction? Any word on a final version? Thanks.

Would you happen to know when 2004 was released?  I had downloaded the OEM tools last week and the highest version that I saw was 2003_71a

I am actually a bit confused about the various firmware options. I know that I am running one beta version of combo 384 (whichever one was current in early December 2017). With it, I can play dsd 512 using the MR NAA into my Atlantic dac. It works, but has periodic issues.

I just recently read about 2002, 2003, and 2004. I am not sure whether those are fundamentally new firmwares or just different versions of combo 384?

On Computer Audiophile, I read that 2004 will be coming out "soon."

I have owned my Atlantic dsd only since March of 2017. For the entire time, I have been told to wait just a little longer for a true release version of this firmware. Very frustrating (Amanero's fault, not Lampi's obv.).

Hi - I realize this is an old topic but just checked Amanero's firmware site and lists a new firmware dated March 11 2020

https://amanero.com/combo384_firmware.htm

Listed as native DSD512 Linux/Windows firmware_2006be11 Windows Driver Setupuac2 1.1.0.73 (11 Mar 2020)

Anyone have info on this - can this update amanero based DAC's like the Lampi B7?
