I'm looking for recommendations on a headphone amp or small stereo pre-amp w/headphone for use on a computer.

I'm looking in the $200-300-ish price range.

Creek at $225???
Z-Pre v2 at $400??? (probably look for a used v1)
???

Get thee to the Head Fi classifieds my friend, daily churn of some great units for what you are considering, including some with USB DAC's.

I use a Millet Max Hybrid (uses tubes but has an SS stage too) with my Grado's, ran me $200 new (DIY, but built by someone competent).

What cans?

Keces HA-171. Check out the thread on AC. Great unit.

I also use a Musical Paradise MP-301, very nice little 6 watts tube and a new version is due shortly and they are not real expensive.

Check out a Total Bit Head....portable DAC and amp...they come up for sale at headfi for under $100 and are worth every cent....unless you are trying to drive some hog cans like a senn 800

I bought this; finally had a chance to hook it up. Now I need headphones (not that my Sennheisers are bad)...

I may be in the market for another (second) headphone amp; I want it similar to the Keces in function but I want to try a different one.

I picked up an Matrix M-Stage based on reviews and it has worked out great.  Gain settings, 2 sets of inputs, and plenty of power.  I picked mine up off of eBay.

I've been using it with an HRT Music Streamer USB DAC on my PC as well.

I had the Valhalla and I've heard the Asgard.  For the money, I can't think of much out there that is better.
