LDR1 power supply question
« on: 4 Jan 2014, 12:03 am »
Hi, I just got a Sonore SPS1000 power supply with 3 rails. I thought I would use the 18-21V rail for my CAPS 3 Carbon but just found out it actually uses 12V - I was going to use the 12V for the LDR1. Will the 18-21V(selectable) output damage the LDR if set to 18V?

thanks!
Tony

You should be able to easily change the voltage output of that one rail if you wanted.

How is that? I can only lower it to 18v. I am using the other 2 rails already and don't really want to modify a brand new sps1000.

Thanks

DC/DC power supply boards are very inexpensive if you don't want to modify the Sonore.

so I try it again this morning and everything works with the sps1000 - same cables etc.. I have the LDR on the 12V out. Really strange but I'm happy  :singing:

The LDRx preamps can handle 18-21 VDC supply since the on board 5 VDC regulator is rated up to something like ~30-35 VDC at 1A.  The actual current draw is more like 20-30% of rating so heating shouldn't be a problem either (there's no heat sink). At some point the 12 VDC Trigger Out feature would be compromised since this is simply a switched pass through of the input voltage.
