MEGAschino Sonics versus Golden Cherry Sonics ?
« on: 1 May 2017, 08:49 pm »
These answers may be helpful to anyone considering Golden Cherry or MEGAschino amplifiers....

How do they compare sonically?

The MEGAschino and Golden Cherry have nearly identical sonics. Both deliver smooth, low impedance, liquid-like sound, especially when paired with world class speakers.  The real difference is headroom.  The MEGAschino has even more of it, and the Golden Cherry can drive surprisingly loud for its rating.  Both can output very close to the actual rail voltage.  More than double the power with the sweet sound of a Maraschino is just wonderful, and you get that with the MEGAschino.  We feel very strongly about this design.

What would be the reason to want the MEGAschino over the Golden Cherry?

The idea of MEGAschino is an even blacker background, especially with power hungry speakers like Magnepan.  The Golden Cherry is more than adequate with 4 ohm speakers that have 97dB efficiency, for example.  They also do very well with KEF Blade 2, Tekton, JTR, Revel, VonSw, Legacy, Ubiq, Zu, and many more sought after brands.  The sound of both Golden Cherry and MEGAschino can be described as fast and clean.
