The first real film camera I used was my dad's SRT 201 with a 50 1.8 lens (back in high school). He gave it to me last year or the year before - nice camera.

Yea... this pro-level, Minolta 9xi with the 35-70mm Lens + Flash is a helluva' lot of kit for only 75 bucks! If you break the price down by component, it's simply ridiculous! Who woulda' thunk just a few years back.

I have to refamiliarize myself with film personalities.... and there's lots of 'em with restrictions too based on where I can get film developed.  :o

Well, for B&W films you can always develop it yourself. As for color I guess that's all depend on film labs you have there. Shouldn't be problem if you use common color films. Any pro film lab in your town?

I have the same Minolta lens on an 450si that I bought in 94 (still use it), its alway been a good solid lens.

PeteG, I didn't know you use Minolta. Well, what do you know another Minolta user. :D

I got myself a SRT 101 with 55mm f1.7 MC Rokkor a few years back just for fun. And I love it! The older MC Rokkor lenses were not as good as the later generation but it does have it's own charm to it.

Well, with all the talk about old Minolta's film SLR, time for me to do some walk...

Above where taken back in 2003. This is a scan from 8X10 print I made.
Camera: Minolta Maxxum 7xi
Lens: Tokina 28-70mm f2.6-2.8 AT-X 270AF Pro
Film: Kodak Tri-X 400
Developer: Kodak Xtol
Printed on Forte B&W paper.
Scanner: HP Scanjet G4050

Taken with Minolta SRT 101 SLR camera.
Lens either Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 55mm f1.7 or MC W.Rokkor-HG 35mm f2.8... sorry I forgot which one I used but likely the 50mm.
Film: Kentmere 400 developed in Kodak D76.
Scanner: HP Scanjet G4050

The above was testing out the Kentmere B&W film. Not really big on the result, it is cheaper than Kodak Tri-X for sure, but I think I would rather spend $1 more for the Tri-X. These were scanned using my old HP scanner. I think I might rescan them with my current Epson V550.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Spent the day at Mont Blonc (just outside of Geneva).   Spectacular is an understatement.

I've got to say...you guys are great photographers.  I'm not into photography
but I always check this thread for the great pictures.  I'm amazed.

A couple of weeks back my family was eating at a Vietnamese restaurant and
the cook came out to greet us.  We visit it quite often.  I told her of Guy 13 and
showed her some of his pictures of Vietnam.

Keep up the great work and keep them coming.

Hi apollophono.
Please don't mention my name to any Vietnamese,
they might trace me back here on planet Vietnam
and come to my house to collect money I own them.
It's a joke.
May I know the name of the restaurant and where it's located,
just curious, maybe I know who he is.

Guy 13, the name of the restaurant is Hao Hao and it is in Round Rock, Texas.
The original owner left the restaurant sold it to a Vietnamese lady and new
cook.  Unfortunately the food wasn't of the same quality as previously and
that is why the cook came out to talk to us.  Also I didn't get her name.

Regardless the service is good and we love the Won Ton soup.  Very good
indeed and haven't found anything better.  We will still be going back.   :P
If I remember next time I will ask her name.

Stay well my friend and don't answer the door bill collectors come
knocking.

Hi apollophono.
Thanks for the info.
You probably know that already, but Won Ton soup is chinese not Vietnamese.
If you want real Vietnamese soup ask for: Pho Ga or Pho Bo.
Chicken (Ga) or Bo (Beef) Noodle soup.
I am not afraid of the bill collector,
I've got a pit bulldog with Aids waiting for any bill collectors.

Hi Guy 13, I’ve had the Pho soup a few times at different restaurants in Tulsa OK.
I went with an older Vietnamese friend who did the ordering in his native tongue,
I didn’t know what I was getting but it was very good.

0000 steel wool in a little wire cage.  Attach a wire cable to the cage, hit it with a small propane torch (or 9v battery), and start swinging the cable around.  Not sure what it's called but it's a fun learning opportunity for people who've never done night work.  It's also the perfect way to make your own fireworks show.

A group of researchers decided to use the imagery for scientific purposes.  Under tightly controlled circumstances they found the following:

This is your brain after listening to vinyl.

This is your brain after listening to RB CDs.

The identical results were obtained when comparing tubes to solid state music sources.
