this is a steal at $800.  I own one of these and it is as natural sounding as a dac gets.

I modified mine to use 6SN7s but with 6CG7s it still sounds great.

Put it on US Audio Mart had good luck there.
There is a lot of ignorance out there unfortunately.

Contact Frank about his brokerage service. He'll give it a check-up and provide a bill of health as it were, which provides the prospective buyer with peace of mind. He seems to move the used stuff he takes in quite quickly.

I'm not very familiar with this but if all I wanted to do was stream music from Tidal could I hook this directly to my amp? I could hook up a chromecast audio or apple tv to the optical in and then use the line outs direct to my amp? Or do I need a separate pre-amp and then to the amp?

Ian very interested in this dac. I could just hook it up to my xmc1. I wonder how much better it would sound than the xmc1 internal dac? I'm wanting to try and get more of a tube sound when listening to 2-channel music. I recently was able to listen to a McIntosh MC275 amp and McIntosh tube preamp. It was the best audio experience I've had. I know this won't get me that far but it might be a nice start. I could also try it with my peachtree nova 220 and bypass that dac.

The FET Valve DAC is a nice sounding DAC.  It should be better than the DAC in the Emotiva and probably the Peach Tree Nova 220 which is an older Sabre chip.  It will definitely be warmer sounding. At that price it is well worth it if you don't need a usb DAC.  It should give you some tube sound especially with the Nova which uses a tube buffer, but not like a tube amp.
