"Pictures" is an interesting case for me, though I can't recommend any recordings.  I really dislike the main theme (due to its being overplayed) but the rest of the music in the piece--and there is a lot--is splendid, even enchanting.  Here's where Pandora comes in handy.  Since they are loath to program lengthy pieces in their entirety, their selections from "Pictures" vary and I'm able to give 'thumbs up' to the parts I like.  So there's something else good about Pandora.

The analog-mastered RCA Reiner/CSO remains my favorite performance of the Ravel orchestration. Reissued as an SACD several years ago. The Stokowski never struck me as a more "Russian" reading, but rather as simply more gimmicked to suit Stokie's (and perhaps the recording producer's) taste.

It seemed 'overstuffed' compared to the Ravel arrangement. Beautiful, but 'busy'.

Has anyone heard this guitar quartet arrangement?

So, I bought the above and find it lovely.
