BP17 Cubed Trigger a 4B Cubed
« on: 3 Dec 2017, 12:33 am »
Hi,

Is it possible to have a BP17 3 preamp trigger a 4B 3 amp when powered on? There is a mini plug jack on the BP17 for this purpose but the 4B does not have a mini plug jack but it has an external voltage control wire terminal.

I read both manuals and it's not clear how to accomplish this.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Alan

Thanks James. Mike got me an answer. It's definitely possible but it requires a mini plug to bare wire cable like this.

Here is a direct quote from my email correspondence with Mike.

"... this is simply a matter of connecting the 3.5mm connector to the 'Trigger 1' output on the BP17, and the bare wires to the 'IN' terminals on the 4B3. The remote power up switch on the 4B3 will move from 'local' to 'external', and the front panel power switch should be left in the in/on position."

I'll post results once I try it.

Got this to work using this trigger cable.

A few notes.

1) After turning on the preamp it takes about 5-8 sec. for the amp to turn on so be patient.

2) The bare wire end on the amp requires a VERY small slot screwdriver which I didn't have. Made one out of an old razor blade and tin snips and taped it to the end of the smallest screwdriver I  had. Got the job done MacGyver style!

Hope this helps others who want to do this.
