I'm building a pair of LXmini speakers, and the mid woofer sits on top of 4 inch PVC.

I was going to paint the PVC, but has anyone tried DuraTex on PVC?

I think it would look great  :thumb:

I haven't tried the Duratex yet either but if scuffing the PVC isn't enough for the Duratex to hold you can always put a coat of primer on the PVC first.

Hi Mike.

I'm considering that build as well. Please post your feedback on the LXmini (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=129952.20) after you're done.

A few years ago I built my first sealed servo subwoofer.  Wanting to be different and having novice woodworking skills I opted to build a tube made up of over 30 MDF rings.  For the longest time it went unfinished as it still looked cool if a little rough around the edges.

After practicing with the duratex and getting a better handle on how best to apply it I opted for a somewhat smooth finish along the outside of the cabinet and textured the bottom.  I think it turned out ok. and now I'm not worried about it ever getting wet.   :thumb:

I just got through using the "spray version" and applied it with a 1/4" nap roller. The stuff works great! Attention to prepping the cabinet is well worth the time spent for a nice light texture (any surface anomalies from a not perfect prep will show up).

A little of this stuff goes a LONG way. I still have 3 quarts left over after doing four 14"x14" cabinets. Call the manufacturer if you have any questions. They are extremely helpful.

I still have the pint and quart sized versions with rollers in stock. This is really good stuff.

"If you roll on several lighter coats a smoother surface can be achieved."

I have a question regarding this textured finish and just how it
might affect the drivers sealing tightly against the baffle? Is the
the solution just not to do a 'texturizing' final pass with the roller
on those areas? ...Thanks

Beautiful job on the sub.  Where did you find the mdf rings?

My surface mount woofers have a pretty good gasket on them and I have not seen any issues with them so far.

Anything that is counter sunk like tweeters or the LGK's does not get a layer of Duratex inder them.
