Got an old Pentax K1000 in your closet?
« on: 21 Sep 2016, 01:34 pm »
Looking for a Pentax K1000 camera/lens for my grandson.  Wouldn't rule out buying a multi-lens outfit.  PM me if you have anything available.

Thanks,

Find one yet?
I've got an old SLR Pentax. Not a K1000 though, but if you're still in need, I'll find it and see what it is.

Bob, with a lot of help from AC member bside123 (Din)  :notworthy:  over in Southern Illinois, my grandson is the proud owner of a three-lens K1000 outfit, with tripod, bag, and flash!  Christmas came early for the 14-year old this year!    :thumb:

Interesting - what sparked their interest in this particular model?

Apparently it was the same model his mother used in college.   They are still in demand for college photography classes.

That's pretty cool.  Hope you post some of his work when available.

That's about the age I got my first quasi-serious camera. Good choice. High quality, simple operation, and used Pentax glass is much more affordable than Nikon or Canon. He will learn 10x as much about making a good photograph with that camera than he would with a digital camera like most of his friends will probably get. Film- and manual exposure and focus- teach you discipline that just blasting away taking 100 almost-identical photos and hoping one "turns out" better doesn't. That discipline pays off in better photographs IMHO.

Hey!

Yup, 100% agreed on that. With film you need to be more precise than digital actually. Using film needs a different mentality than using digital.

I still like to use film, actually so far this year 2016 I think I used my film cameras a bit more than my digital. Although sometime I'd go out with both film and digital cameras.

Well, I actually started my photography when I was about 13, around the same age as your grandson now. There were no digital camera back than. Anyway, lucky kid. Now next step is to give him a roll of Tri-X and show him how to develop it himself  8)

Take care,
