BP25 Upgrade to BP26
« on: 14 Jun 2016, 05:43 pm »
I have noticed on a forum somewhere that at one time Bryston offered an upgrade of a BP25 preamp to a BP26 (not including the MPS-2 power supply) for $600. Is that service still available?

I had this done last year by Bryston. It was well worth the upgrade

What were the main differences in sound?

I'm not sure the upgrade is still available.  But, I had the upgrade done a couple of years ago and purchased the MPS-2 power supply (since I believe the upgrade includes a new (different) power supply connector.  I noticed a more detailed presentation of the program material.  More "air" around instruments and voices.  I'm sure other bloggers can describe what they heard better than me. I am also very pleased with the upgrade.  No regrets what-so-ever.  You may also want to ask Mr. Tanner if there is a new Preamp coming down the pike.

As the initiator of this thread, I suppose I should respond to the question about the "differences in sound". Unfortunately, (or more likely, fortunately), I also upgraded from a 3B ST and a BDP-1 to a 4B3 and BDP-2 at the same time as I had the BP25->BP26 upgrade. All that I can say for sure, is that the whole system sounds great. It sounds more like the sound I would get from listening with the BP25 with good headphones. So much so that I am even thinking of postponing a planned speaker upgrade. This was done just recently (within the last month), so I suspect that it is still available, although Mike Pickett mentioned that the cost of parts was increasing and they might have to raise the price (currently $600 Can).
