I've been having a lot of problems with my main Roon endpoint lately and have been thinking of upgrading, and Bryston is high on my list. I've found a NOS BDP1 for an attractive price, but am wondering what are the main differences between the BDP1 and BDP2 and if it's personally worth it to me to upgrade?

I don't think so. He mentioned he found a NOS BDP-1. The NOS should put it over the top, literally.

His question was what were the diffs between BDP-1 and -2. Not between NOS -1 and -2. I am going by what he wrote in his OP.

If you don't want to play files from the optional internal hard drive and your budget is tight the bdp-1 is fine.
Sonically they are the same.
I want to play all my music files from the internal 1TB SSD so I went for the bdp-2
In my opinion this set up is the most trouble free,independent and gives me the highest possible sound quality
I wish Chris gave the copy-paste ability from a USB stick to the internal SSD as it is possible with my cheap Dune media player

Both BDP-1 and BDP-2 have AES.

Yep. Makes for a nice Roon Ready endpoint too! The only limitation is that the BDP1 is a bit slow to boot up and it's designed for relatively small libraries.

Do you mean a direct patch from BDP to NAS or BDP to router to NAS? If first case, I don't think so...

I might be leaning towards the BDP2 in an attempt to prevent automatic obsolescence. Will keep you all posted.

What do you mean by "automatic obsolescence"?

I'm not sure what he means by that term, but the BDP-1 is a 32bit platform and eventually we will need to switch to a 64bit kernel which is the plan for Nutty Narwhal.

Is this a hidden announcement for a BDP-3?
other enhancements might be in order, even the BDP2 won't be able to handle soon either?

Although the BDP-2 uses a 32bit chipset it has the capability of executing 64bit code
