I'm Bill - Hello to everyone here in the Circle. Obviously, I am new here and need some help and direction:

I have as my main speakers a pair of University S6 Master Series speakers - 3-way, made at someone's home in the mid-50's ( one of the pair was made later to move into stereo sound - the driver array is not mirror-imaged in the cabinets); purchased at an antique stop about 2 years ago, and I am amazed by how great they sound.  But I am looking for a "purer sound" (more lively, more live and alive) and have been given the impression, from reading, that open baffle could be the ticket. I especially enjoy listening to small group acoustic jazz, accapella singing and luv voices.

For drivers/speakers to experiment with, I have the following:

2 different Pairs of 8" Peak/Coral Drivers: HF-201, and another pair not readily available to get info on the back

1 pair of 12" Pioneer drivers: only say 20W 16 ohm on the back

1 pair of EMI speakers; has single oval driver in walnut cabinets; not readily available to get info on the back

1 pair of Ohm Model Fours in Walnut cabinets (2 way system).

ELECTRONICS :

Marantz SACD SA-8001
Sanyo T-35 Plus Tuner

Kenwood KA-3500 integrated amp
Onkyo A-7 Integrated amp

Onkyo TX-6500 MKII receiver

Wolze Triode Line Level Preamp
Nikko Alpha 230 DC amplifier

I read all kinds of stuff on the internet but figure I've got a better chance for success by asking those in the trenches - like guy who have done it and are on the site in this group.

I've only got small funds to work with regarding purchasing materials for baffles, but I've got the impression that driver placement within the panel and room placement can make a marginal driver set sparkle...

Please help me get started with your success and observtions. Thanks for any help or advice - it is appreciated.

Looking forward to moving forward with this project - help please.

Hi Bill, when you say Ohm Model Fours, do you mean a pair of these:

These can help, if you haven't already seen them:

You may use your Corals or EMIs in place of Lampizator's  midrange choice of Saba/Isophon.
