Audeze: $250,000 worth of Headphones stolen

If anybody sees or hears of good deals on Audeze headphones, it might be related to this.

Mods: wasn't sure if there was a better place to post this. Feel free to move accordingly.

I figure the best thing to do is to spread this report far and wide and see if somebody runs across them. Audeze is a good company and this has got to hurt them badly.

Here is the story - http://abc7.com/news/thieves-steal-$250000-worth-of-headphones-in-costa-mesa-/539286/

(may need to cut and paste the entire link to get it to work)

"COSTA MESA, Calif. (KABC) -- A Costa Mesa manufacturer hopes a $10,000 reward will lead to the arrests of the thieves who made off with an estimated $250,000 worth of high-end headphones Saturday.

The burglary occurred at the Audeze company warehouse in the 1500 block of Sunland Lane between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Audeze says surveillance video caught the thieves, who were wearing masks and gloves, crawling under motion detectors. The custom headphones, which are partially made out of wood, retail for between $700 and close to $2,000 apiece.

Anyone with any information was urged to contact the company by email at support@audeze.com. "

Bad news - but I am hopeful that their fans all over the world will be on high alert and will find them being sold
suspiciously online, and that will help them catch the thief.  Wishing them good luck in getting justice!

This screams "inside job" to my mind, but all my experience with heists comes from Hollywood. You have to know there are motion detectors before you go in there to know to crawl under them, no?

I wonder if the stolen goods will end up out of the country. The perps must know they'll be on the radar in the US and Canada (at least).

Audeze says on its web site that dealers are not allowed to sell on Amazon.  But here they are on Amazon.

Hi mresseguie,

That's a big leap to make in saying it smells like an inside job.

I'm not saying that it is impossible that they have a bad employee who was in on it, but it could have easily been one of the workers who put in the security system, or who worked in their building doing something else (electrician, internet provider, plumber, etc.).  Thieves know how to ask the right questions to get the info they need to know to plot their crime.  Ask any police officer who has investigated these types of crimes - some of these criminals are very smart.  But they usually slip up and get busted.  "Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gunna do when they come for you!"

Just hoping everything works out with this case, because that is a lot of money for a small company.  :(

Is that Audeze selling factory direct vs. via a dealer?

No that is an unauthorized dealer (Dash Cruz) with 31% lifetime negative feedback selling a $1K headphone for $2200.  The other vendor is selling a used one.

I have 28 years experience as a Police Officer.  I would love to work this case.

Stereophile also reported the story. Also, Audio Vision in San Francisco was hit this same weekend. It is obvious not by the same people.

That's terrible.  I usually don't buy audio equipment on Amazon so I was not aware.  Thanks
