They have an interesting looking Preamp Kit listed, but I can't find prices.

Are prices listed anywhere?

Hi simoon,
I did not see prices either, however, I will ask them about prices for their units
and their kits and get back here, after I have met them at the end of this month.

Looks like Guy's gonna be parting with some cash  :icon_twisted:

Hi dB Cooper,
maybe not much $$$ since I need to find a silent (Investing) partner. :(

I wonder just how much money is needed to become a licensed distributor of XYZ or JKL brand equipment. Do you suppose it's closer to $25K, $50K, or $100K?

Just thinking aloud... 8)

Hi mresseguie,
I think just enough money is needed to have a few units to show.
I think less than 25K$ of course you have to add the set up of the company,
place rental, furniture, stationary and maybe a little $$$ for advertising
and some money for a few months of (Minimum 8$/hr) salary.
The three companies that I have started
(Digimex Inc/Combustion Maxtherm in Canada)
I started them with less than 5,000 $
and Le Duc Ghi Trading Co., Ltd in Vietnam with only 2,000 USD.
Minds you today in Canada I think it would require around 25,000 $
to start something decent.
I was also thinking loud and maybe an on line set up is the way to go
since it require the lowest start-up investment.
Audio 13 is my full time hobby/dram now,
trying to figure out a way to make my dream happen.
Please keep sharing your ideas.
Thanks.

Hi all,
Today I went to the showroom of Thivan Labs in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City)
and met the owner Mr. Thi and his lovely, friendly wife.
All of them spoke good English with me.
When I arrived, there was already a customer that also spoke good English.
All that to say: That I was in good company.
Thivan Labs has revamped his complete line of products.
Power amplifier, integrated amplifier, pre-amplifier, DAC and more,
plus, Thivan Labs now offers bookshelves speakers.
Everything is made in house.
So, we sat comfortably and listen to some music
via his laptop files with a DAC, push pull EL84 integrated amplifier (10wpc)
and his new bookshelves speakers which comprise of
one 10” full range driver in a bass reflex enclosure.
(Mr. Thi wanted to keep for himself the brand name of the driver
made in Thailand, I understand.)
The first thing that surprised me was the bass, deep and lots of it
for a 10” full range driver in a relatively small enclosure.
The mids and high are good and give a feeling of heaviness,
room filling and can play loud with very little distortion.
They also have a lot of punch in the bass, very dynamics.
The large bookshelves enclosures are well made for 395 USD/pair.
The integrated amplifier uses EL84 in push pull configuration
and the unit is point to point soldered,
except for the power supply which is a PCB,
it also uses a thyroidal transformer with a choke
and some serious filtering with several capacitors.
The EL84 PP amplifier sells for 495 USD.
Mr. Thi will be working soon on the same amplifier configuration
except he will use the EL34 tubes.
Overall I was impressed by the look
and the sound for something almost 100% Made in Vietnam.
For more information here’s their website:

Thanks for reading.

Guy 13 on planet Vietnam.
When I am back in Canada Mr. Thi would like me to distribute
or sell his products, I am thinking about it seriously.

I could sell their products in Canada or at least in the province of Quebec.

Guy,

This keeps getting more and more interesting. I imagine shipping costs to the West Coast of the USA might be horrendous, but $495 for the integrated tube amp is mighty attractive.

I'll bet shipping to Taiwan is a lot less than to N. America. I'm going to need a small, but enjoyable system in Taiwan. I went without for 3 1/2 months the last time I was there and nearly went nutso.

Thanks for the 'boots on the ground' research!

Hi Jay,
for you captain, the audition will include enough free beer to get you drunk,
so you will love the sound regardless of the sound quality.

Hi Bob2,
I was really surprised at the sound of that Made in Thailand 10" full range driver,
of course the bass reflex enclosure is for something in the good performances,
especially in the lower frequencies.
I was also surprised on how loud it could play without much distortion,
the listening room was quite large
and the 10 wpc Push Pull amplifier with the 95dB efficient full range driver
had no problem filling the room.
Of course the 10" full range was not perfect with everything you throw at him,
but most of the music was reproduced adequately and big classical orchestras
were reproduce better than with my Omega 7/Decware SE84C+
Of course this is not a perfect system, but for the price of 890 USD for the speakers
and amplifier is what you could call a killer deal/bargain, don't you think so?
Of course if you live on planet Vietnam, because importing them to Canada
would more or less double that price.

Guy 13
Thivan Labs got a group purchase and when they reach 50 pairs (???)
the price will go down to 350 USD (???)

Hi mresseguie,
shipping to Taiwan would not be very expensive, that's for sure.
Shipping to USA or Canada in large quantities, would not be expensive either,
the speakers are only 14 Kilos or 31 pounds/each.
Thivan Labs are looking for distributors/retailers for North American, Europe and Asia.
If you are to settle down in Taiwan, you could be their distributor ????
