Title: The Mechanic-What was the stereo setup?
Post by: Lyndon on 30 Jan 2011, 05:54 am
Just got home from 'The Mechanic' a remake of the old Charles Bronson movie.
The main guy has a great stereo system, what looks like a Pro-Ject turntable,
a red cartridge, and a Jolida integrated amp.  I'll leave it to you Eagle eyes to tell
me the tt model, cartridge and amp.
It was good to see him clean the record and cue the vinyl.  :thumb:
Stolen from carbonman on AK:

I saw the preamp was a McIntosh C22 reissue, turntable was Pro-ject and the cart was Ortofon Red

I watched The Mechanic yesterday along with True Grit, excellent action flick,,, my kinda movie. I'm a huge Jason Statham fan and pretty much enjoy every movie of his. Nice tube system but I wish there would have been a better shot of the speakers, there was barely a glance of 1 floorstander.

Maybe these types of action flicks aren't for the critical viewer, tons of action with a fair amount of T&A and no Oscar nominations but it rocked my world for an hour and a half. 4 out of 5 stars.  8)

Bring on Cowboys and Aliens, Thor, and The Green Lantern.  :guns:

Cheers,
Robin

Thanks guys! What model Jolida was it?  It looks like it has 4 power tubes.
The red Ortofon looks good against that milky white acrylic platter.

Based on the shape of the tubes, it looks like a 302.

If the speakers are supposed to be current production, they aren't Triangles: Look at the way the light falls across the inside of the right speaker. There is some sort of facet, like the corner is cut in.

I don't think they are the Pinnacles linked to: There's no base/plinth on the speakers getting torched.

I don't know the model #, but 2 of my buddies have that amp. Looks better without the transformer cover.

I agree with you, Planet10, I couldn't find a photo of the older model without its covers,  but here is its sister, the 302a

Mike,
If you can find a photo without the transformer covers...
that was what I was looking for...

Sorry, I was trying to match the screen grab... Humm. I don't know that I've ever seen a picture of the 302 w/o the cover. If I find one, I'll put it up (unless someone beats me to it).

I am sorta curious about the Classical piece he played on his TT
and what/who was singing when Steve (the young Kid) was drunk
shooting up his father's home.  He's rocking out on his i-Pod.

Thanks, Dave.
I always enjoy your input.
I never got around to trying to build those Metronomes from the first Burning Amp festival.
Hope you are having a not too frantic winter up in the NW.

The wife was a bit frantic this AM when she woke up to no power... but compared to what the mid->east is getting it is a tropical paradise here :)

I saw the movie too, somehow I thought it was an Audio Research integrated. :duh:

Did not know the speakers.

At least I know my turntables and arms. :green:
