A recording and mastering engineer who recently bought a Thunderchild 115 bass cab with composite enclosure (the latter built by the same Mike Arnopol you've heard on your Patrica Barber albums) recently posted something very complimentary over on TalkBass.  Quoting in part:

"...the initial impression is the thunderchild is close to my mastering rig in terms of resolution and gets loud enough to shake the whole house. Every Bass sounds more individual than previously revealing the unique character of the instrument and the electronics in the signal chain. It is quite a feat to produce this kind of detail in a bass cab loud enough to keep up with a drummer. Having tried everything on the market practically I can say that is the finest Bass system I have used..."

And in this link he talks a bit more about his mastering rig, whose resolution the TC115 comes "close" to:

This is kind of exciting to me.  Yeah I know it's not a home audio speaker I'm bragging about here, but that bass cab is using the same design approach and some of the same parts as several of my home audio models, and in fact it wouldn't have been possible without the crossover experience I got in the home audio world.  I did have to make a few tradeoffs in the bass cab to get power handling up and keep the cost down, relative to what I can get away with in home audio.  But there it is coming "close" to the resolution of a high-end custom multi-amped DSP crossover/EQ'd mastering monitor rig (whose crossover alone costs about five times as much as my bass cab).

So when I do get that 15" 8-ohm kit going, it will have the same mastering-monitor-approaching mojo as my high-end bass cab, but portability won't be as much of an issue so we can use a bigger cabinet and thus extend the bottom end, and I won't have to make compromises for the sake of very high SPL capability.  The kit will also be more tube-amp-friendly.
