New Shorter Sound Labs

Sound Lab have released two smaller high tech high speck speakers.
So new they are not even on their website!
That's a Majestic and an Ultimate.
There is a review of the Ultimate U-4iA at dagogo.
Here is the link http://www.dagogo.com/sound-lab-ultimate-u-4ia-electrostatic-speaker-review
They are made for smaller rooms.
Slightly under five feet!
Hey the the nine foot ones would not fit in my 7.5 foot ceiling.
Even the seven foot ones would be a struggle!
Any one heard one or even seen one?

A little bit of an update.
SoundLab have both consolidated and extended their range.
A number of models have been removed,
All have been renamed,
And there are even more of the smaller, nominal five feet models.
The nine feet one is still there if your room and wallet can accommodate it!
Here is the link to the review of the Majestic 545.
Looks really good and, it seems to me, to be aggressively priced!

If you are in the market for an electrostatic you would be crazy to overlook the new SoundLabs.

Yeah, the speaker really seems great,
And, you know, as reviews go, I don't think it can get any better than that!

I have a pair arriving Monday.  My last pair of Sound Labs was 19 years ago.  Will post impressions when they are broken in, if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi Mark
I am super interested.
Can't wait for your posting.
By the way did you get the Ultimates or the Majestics?
Enjoy your listening!

I bought the Majestics.  I could not see the huge premium for the steel frames of the Ultimates, which frankly I think are pretty ugly.

I wondered about what the sonic differences would be, and whether that would be worth the price difference ($21,650 and $13,450). The Majestic looks like a relative bargain—and the Exogal Comet DAC and Ion PowerDAC system mentioned in the dagog review looks similarly appealing.

I considered trying the Exogal combo, even though I know that Doug Schroeder tends to go way over the top in his reviews.  Two things stopped me though.  The first was that I like the sound of DSD SACDs, and the Exogal combo would not work for this.  The second is that my room is quite large from a cubic foot perspective, and while I am no headbanger, occasionally I do like loud, and unlike Doug I listen to a lot of classical music.  A symphony at full cry demands a lot from an amplifier, and nothing is more frustrating than asking for "11" when the amp  conks out at "8".  Reminiscent of my days with  Quad ESL-63s.  Lovely sound, but often when you would be getting into  it and ask for just a bit more, they would reply, no thank you.

That said, when I called Exogal, none other than the CEO answered the phone, and he offered to send me the Exogal combo to try, which was most accommodating.  But he also contradicted Doug, saying that there were no immediate plans for monoblock versions, which may have worked.  In the end, as I already had a PS Audio DSD, I decided to add their BHK preamp and Direct Stream Memory Player.  For power I went with Bryston 7B3 - no worry of ever running out of juice.

We are spoilt for choice.
