Hi Rich, wish I could help but I've never heard HE-500s.

I do think the 560s work better with a "warmer" amp - within reason. A friend loaned me an EL84 SET which I really loved. He wanted it back tho

Right now I'm really enjoying DSD with the Marantz that I got yesterday. I have to say I didn't quite get DSD before. The 560s were a little "V shaped" with the DAC I had before but not now. It's all so weird, how strongly dependent things are on each other.

The 560s are still my only headphone. Almost everything I ever wanted.

I do have an odd issue, which apparently is unique to me, which is a ticking sound in them when they get hot.

Even so, my only other wish at this point is for a noise-cancelling pair for travel and the other odd times when I need isolation.
