I usually like the Telarc recordings that I buy. Recently, I got two CDs in what I infer is their "Bravo!" series. The bass drum in the fourth movement of Mahler's Symphony #1 is a bit overblown, but it's a good recording overall (CD-82004). CD-82010 comprises Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra and Janacek's Sinfonietta, two of my favorite compositions. The Janacek is fine, but the fifth movement of the Bartok is hard to listen to because the bass is so muddy. I think that I'm listening to a bass drum or tympani, but the sound is so boomy and amorphous that I can't be sure. Is anyone familiar with other Bravo! recordings ?
