MAC Music Player
« on: 23 Jun 2012, 02:17 pm »
Hi folks

Playing around with my MAC laptop and tried ITunes of course and Songbird as the music player. Are there any others that will do 192/24 other than Amara?

I use Decibel on my Mac (when I'm not using my Squeezebox Server).  Plays 24/192 I find it sounds best with when it loads song into memory...a check box to select under "preferences" if I recall correctly.

Best,

Thanks John.  I assume the 192 would be a function of the soundcard in the MAC being capable of 192?

James:

24/192 via USB should be no problem on a Mac. I believe the optical out is limited to 24/96 though.

It is a function of the output connection.  USB is 192K capable while TOSLINK (optical out) is limited to 96K.

Best,
John

EDIT: Hahaha!  Mike beat me to it!

Pure Music does 24-192, sounds really good and is much less expensive than Amara.  You can download it free to try for a couple of weeks before you have to buy it.

The only issue so far is I can not get the sample rate to change automatically.

Sample rate change is a known 'issue'. Bitperfect ought to take care of that, as would Audirvana+. Did you try those?

Hi,

Yes I have - it is my reference :thumb:
I am trying some of the USB interfaces so need to use my laptops USB out to try the different units and want to make sure I can do 192/24.

of course you would need some of those units, since the BDA1's Usb input doesn't support 192/24. Might  you be testing  a possible hardware upgrade to the BDA1?

Hi Marius,

We are looking at that but I also wanted to compare against the BDP-1 and see if I could detect any major performance differences.
