Keep in mind that the EPS material that the "guts" are made of is somewhat delicate.  Normally the frames protect the edges a bit.  Naked QRD's can easily get dinged if you are not carefully when you are moving them in and out of your window.  Is this something  you will be doing often?

Hey dm: Thanks for the warning. Point taken.

Initially, I was thinking of incorporating the QRD "guts" into a custom DiffsorptionTM  panel to fit in my window. Since posting, I've talked with Bryan at GIK and we came to the agreement that the GIK GridFusor would better fit my situation.

But, you're right, I now see I will need some kind of frame to allow frequent, perhaps daily, handling of the panel. As to the frequency of moving, I don't really know. I'm experimenting with just plain absorption there right now, and since the edges are exposed and the frame is to the back, I've been reluctant to move them around much.

Here are some links to some photo's of my naked GIK diffusors.

I got naked QRD's and GRIDFusors.  I cut hardboard/pegboard backings and then glued quarter round trim to the hardboard around the edges of the diffusers.  You can see that this solution protects the edges of the delicate diffusers but leaves the ridges and valleys of the diffusers in the open.  You can see in some of the pictures that there are some dings in the material that is unprotected.  But the hardboard backing gives me something substantial to hang the panels to the walls.

The harsh lighting of the flash tends to highlight the imperfections of my handcrafted designs.  In typical theater lighting you cannot see the problem areas.
