  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

They are not angled.

Not sure that's such a big deal in my experience. My previous cans were Senn 555 (angled drivers). Just bought HD650s (not angled). The 650s outperform the 555s in literally every way IMHO. The Koss "Quad" headphones of years ago didn't do what they were supposed to do. Maybe proximity to the ear has something to do with perception of direction?

They sure are looking good, hopefully they sound just as well. Nice to see more Planar headphones on the market.

.......and I thought all they made were BluRay players.  :duh:

Thanks for posting this.
Been following the thread over on Head-Fi and the big question is: How much $$$?
Would be nice if they could be driven wellby lower power amps, and come in at a reasonable price point.
Say $300-$500?
The cost of Planar HP's and the amps needed to drive them, can make owning them prohibitive.

Just my 2c

This will be worth keeping an eye on.
Who would have thought the choice would come down to more Stax or Oppos?

Roger that!
That's why I sold my HIFIMan 500's.. the cost of an amp upgrade was a turn off to say the least!
Hopefully these can be driven with my WA6.
Always been pleased with everything I have purchased from Oppo..

They look nice.  Price seems on line.  The only headphone to compare to, IMO, is the Audezese.

Interesting.  The lower priced one is in the hifiman price range, and would be the one I would get if I went for one.

Be interesting to see how they compare with other planars.

Wow good stuff, its getting tough keeping track of all the new kinds and brands that are branching out more than I'm familiar with.
If I'm putting up a grand for cans I think for me a well known brand in headphones, I know oppo, like Audeze or Hifiman or Senn......In a year or so if they hold up to the reviewers tour...LOL

Nothing against other countries of the world, but i love that we now have two American players in the ortho market. All we need now is an offering from die Deutschen!

I just read a brief summary of an article Steve Guttenberg did about the PM1, oppo
cans $1099, and he was impressed. They apparently have a lower priced PM2, $695, coming
this summer.
 ....and the fun begins!!!!!! :-)

Those will be the ones I'm waiting for, Ed. According to Oppo, the sound will be identical on the PM-2s coming out in June, but without all the fancy materials.

Had a chance to try these along with the Oppo amp at the AIX desk at AXPONA.
Nice but I think the latest Audeze offering running off of a Lyr was better.
Maybe the amp and headphones weren't broken in yet.....

That's one of the reasons I probably will end up passing on them. This is pending an evaluation, of course, but the Audeze LCD-X has taken me to a place I never expected to go with a pair of headphones, and it's basically an insurmountable obstacle for any other headphones to climb. That being said, if the PM-2 is sonically equivalent to the PM-1 (and this is based on Oppo's own assertion), but without all the fancy materials and shiny box, I'd gladly pick up a pair.

It was so much fun having lots of headphones to alternate among, but the Audezes came in here and ruined all that...lol

ajzepp,
It's just my opinion.. Do try them if you have the chance. I'm saving my money for the LCD X!
Think I'll place an order for the Lyr and put my woo up for sale.
