"Tamikrest plays a fiery brand of trance-inducing desert blues. Since their 2009 debut Adagh they have been hailed as the spearhead of a new generation of Taureg musicians. Their latest record, the intensely beautiful Chatma, confirms their place as the spiritual descendants of their Malian countrymen Tinariwen."

VIEUX FARKA TOURÉ "son of the late Malian six-string magician Ali Farka Touré—plays “…original guitar music of such fluidity, technique, rhythmic invention, and passion, that it is virtually unequaled.” (AllMusic)"

Hey.

We'll I just saw the Grateful Dead in Santa Clara on the second night and it was a blast. This is the kinda of show that you go to with very little hope that it's gonna be great and just go with it. It really was a lot of fun with a few very good moment s.  Just as a full disclosure I have seen them over 200 times.

Next up just a couple of weeks ago I saw the Stones in Buffalo and it was fun but I was less then impressed.

With all that being said I have been very lucky in my life to have seen almost all of the bands I have wanted to see in my life and worked with most.

Life is good.

I saw Steely Dan's Aja and Select Hits 2015 tour in Austin last Friday night (oh, and Elvis Costello opened...yeah, baby!!!).

What a wonderful show. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen with an outstanding 11 piece band (three female backup singers, a four piece horn section, bass, drums, keyboard, and lead guitar), sound quality was so good that each instrument and singer could be clearly distinguished, and there were actual dynamics instead of just a constant *loud* volume. Song selection focused on Aja but included a "greatest hits" ramble through the albums. The set list for the show:

1. Black Cow
2. Aja
3. Hey Nineteen
4. Black Friday
5. Green Earrings
6. Show Biz Kids
7. Time Out of Mind
8. Dirty Work
9. Bodhisattva
10. Daddy Don't Live in That New York City No More
11. Babylon Sisters
12. I Want To (Do Everything for You)
13. (Joe Tex cover with band intros in middle of song)
14. Josie
15. Peg
16. My Old School
17. Reeling In The Years
Encore:
18. Kid Charlemagne
19. The Untouchables Theme (as Walter Becker & Donald Fagen left the stage)

Walter and Donald were very friendly and made you feel connected to them and the band so well. Their 50th anniversary of playing music together and they still have it with the guitar, organ/keyboard/vocals. They wandered on the "greatest hits" songs but were very true to the album with the Aja songs. Truly a great night last night...a special one for me on my list of concerts.

Glad to see there was someone here that went! My expectations were the same and agree that there were some great moments. I went to all 5 and was really impressed.

It's been a great summer of concerts!  Starting in May, I saw Faith No More at the Sony performance theater (fantastic acoustics).  Then there was Steven Wilson at the Danforth.   Went to Foo Fighters for my friend's birthday.   Saw Lamb of God co-headline with Slipknot (left 3/4 of the way through).

Coming up I have back to back concerts of Sun Kil Moon and Riverside.   In early november there is Tesseract and The Contortionist.   So looking forwards to them.

Friday September 11 at Northern Quest Casino's Outdoor Venue, TOTO and YES. It was a great show, a real trip back to the 60's, 70's and 80's. TOTO's new album is really good. Both Steve Lukather and Steve Howe are great guitarists.
