Ethernet Splitter
« on: 8 Dec 2017, 01:46 am »
Is it possible to split an Ethernet connection?  I saw one splitter on Amazon but it had a switch. I only have one Ethernet outlet in my listening room.  Now I need two and I refuse to do any more attic crawling.   :nono:  Running another cable in my new home would be a major, major, undertaking.  Emphasis on undertaking since it would be over my dead body.

It's called an Ethernet Switch.  The least number of ports you'll find is 5, one as an input from your existing wall jack and 4 available for device connection.

There are many that are very similar from Netgear, Linksys, D-Link, TP-Link etc., and generally sell in the $20 - $30 range.  They are all powered and require an AC connection for their wall wart power supplies.

Here's just one:

That will work fine.

I usually select models with shielded metal enclosure and RJ-45 jacks, but I can see how a home version might be more aesthetically pleasing with both power and Ethernet jacks all on the rear panel rather than rear power and front Ethernet jack connections as are usually found on a SOHO design.
