3BST with PS Audio Powerplant 600 ?
« on: 12 Nov 2004, 09:21 pm »
Hi all,

I am not sure if my Bryston 3BST will benefit from plugging it into the PS Audio P600 (720W output)?  Lot of people said it will make the backgroud blacker and better dynamic ?  Some people said it will be make the sound more compressed ?  Any one of you guys has experienced with this setup ?  Can someone comment on this ?

Many thanks in advance..

Can't speak from experience, but most of comments I've read on the various AC forums indicate that the filtering capabilities of power conditioners tend to benefit source components, but constrain power amplifiers.  If you run a search on power conditioner and amp, you'll get a ton of hits on AC from people with good knowledge on the subject.

A few examples:

Although I haven't tried the PS Audio, none of the several Brystons I have (including a 3BST) have benefited from any of several power conditioners I've tried, including an expensive balanced-power transformer.

Well, the PS is a power regenerator, not a power conditioner.  Question then, is whether it will generate enough power to satisfy the 3BST.  My guess is that it probably would - unless the 3BST is working to its limits.  There's the same thing going on with a setup like this as in ML33s.  Best to try it and see,
