If they ‘forget’ to pick-up the ‘old’ speakers when the new replacement pair arrives, give me a call.

Cheers,
Lester

PS: anyone really understand why the tweeter element is directional?
I can see the magnets all line up one way..
And the power comes in one end, out the other (even though yes I realize music is a AC waveform)
But a Magnepan tweeter connected 'in reverse' is weak, like 1/10 the sound.
And the reverse original one (which I assume was connected in reverse during preconditioning done at Magnepan factory, got killed by being preconditioned in reverse?)
I think all the tweeter is being a strip of ultralight aluminized mylar in a strong magnetic field

So. Anyone can explain this in electrical terms?
My guess is it has something to do with the 'right hand rule' so one way the juice can flow normally, but the other way the juice fights the magnetic field?

Anyway, I never knew it mattered so much.

And OK Lester, you have 'dibs' if they tell me to put the first pair out in the trash.

A $14K speaker DOA.

Would it kill Magnepan or any other highend audio manufacturer  to test each speaker prior to boxing and shipping? Aside from damage caused in transit, this should have never occurred.

Am I wrong here?

(On Magnepan recently having issues with 20.7s shipped..)
I have read others also having issues with new 20.7s.
My theory as to the problem is the new 30.7 has taken the workers who used to build the 20.7 and having them do the 30.7.
So new folks are building the 20.7 now, and they are perhaps screwing up.

I would guess a few heads rolling would be in order.. But I am not in charge.
The main problem seems to be in the crossover wiring and the wiring in general being done wrong in some way. then add in that the end user has no access to it, nor the dealer (due to the sock).
Maybe the person doing it is colorblind? Maybe they are talking on their cellphone all day? Maybe they think the old geezers who buy this stuff can't hear anyway, so no one will notice?

I wonder what they do with the returns?

The returns? Clean them up, fix the problem  and sell then as new.

Oh really?! Even more of a reason to test prior to shipping :duh:

How many 20.7s do they make a day that they cant test each pair.

Am I wrong here? :icon_lol:

The key to this is how Magnepan responds to the customer. It appears to me they did the right thing in providing a new pair. Quality control was their strong suit. Time for Magnepan to get it right again. Good company good product.

I am not worried. I guess somehow it seems Emil wants to be angry for me?
It is not a problem.
This is a trivial first world problem.
I am not gonna be out anything. So why should I be angry?
The biggest problem is the time the guys take to deliver them. Then breaking in for another week.
I would not even give 'fewer stars' on a review. LOL
PS ***** five stars for a great product.

That's illegal in the U.S.  They can sell as refurb.

In my line of business when mistakes are made, new a-holes are ripped. "Stuff happens" doesn't cut it.
Could be why I'm oversensitive

Anyway, if they would only  test each speaker that comes off the assembly line, Elizabeth would be enjoying her new Maggies now.

Am I wrong here?   :duh:  Somebody? :D

You aint wrong as I totally agree with you as its not about being overly sensitive but making sure mistakes aren't happening due to stupid mistakes that could of easily been avoided like putting the tweeter in friggen backwards....if one makes like its not a big deal then these simple mistakes will keep on happening unless nipped in the bud right away.

Not exactly Six Sigma over there at Magnapan are they.  Good customer service though.  My experience is that any deficiencies in construction are more than made up in sound quality.  Best wishes on the new pair Elizabeth.

An interesting pictorial tour of the factory from a few years ago:
http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/meet-your-maker-hi-fi-visits-magnepan/

Looks like they are sold in matched pairs.

A pair of “newborn” Maggies awaits its full functional test. Eagle-eyed readers will note that the left and right Maggies use differently placed panel dampers. This is by design, to ensure that the whole system (left and right speaker playing together) has the best overall composite combination of resonance control characteristics.
