Do a Google search for "smoke a fattie".
These are awesome as breakfast sausage patties on a biscuit with a little egg and cheese......yum.

Had a delivery to Unity, Sk. yesterday and took pictures of this pond to remember the place. The photo doesn't capture the huge number of birds on this pond but I posted this photo to give you an idea.

Around this time of year if you're lucky you can see in the sky a huge migration south as we are on or near the flyway. I've only seen it twice in my life, it's like all the birds converge together within a 15 minute span heading south for the winter.

Thank you. It was my first attempt at fireworks and only a halfhearted attempt.
I gave the camera free reign with settings, I just tried to time the shutter correctly. My only "requirement" was no flash (duh).
Out of 250ish shots, I got about thirteen worth anything. All shots were handheld since I didn't bring a tripod.

Mr. Thunderbrick told me something about shooting fireworks. In summery, he said that fireworks themselves are boring (photographically), but if you can put something else in the image that helps to frame the shot, THEN they're interesting.
Or something to that effect.

Since the location had nothing interesting to capture, I had to use what was available. We were at a farm in a vally surrounded by hills full of trees, so I grabbed the "pyrotechnic control headquarters" in the shots.  All the folks you see are inside the roped off area are are the pyro technicians. Their tent, and computer monitor glow were all I had to "add" to the fireworks.

Here's another.

Very Cool. Would be a nice theme for the Theme Gallery thread.  :thumb:

Here's a shot where I attempted a similar approach.

Indeed!  :thumb:
Hopefully, someday, the Theme Thread will come around to fireworks.
When that happens, I'll be ready.

Nice shot you have there. Is that the moon (high and right)?

Yep... that'd be the moon.

Bob, you're a player in the Theme Gallery thread, so you can change the theme as you like... and provoke others to post your themes as well. :)

Thank you.
I'm very glad you created the other thread. I've seen others like them, and the kids call them a "meme".
My wife and I actually have an ongoing email of 'meme' type wordless images, but those are ones we find on the internet.
So "yes", I do understand I can "steer" the thread as I see fit, but in all honesty, I'd like to see it runs it's course like a wide lazy river. We'll simply see where it goes and I'm not in any particular hurry to rush it to a goal of mine. I have a couple thousand photos on PhotoBucket and am ready and eager to post. The fireworks can wait until that day arrives.

I'm looking forward to meeting you one of these days, Sir.  :thumb:

Same here... I missed you at the gear sale in the church up your way a few weeks back. I made may way up there from Southern Illinois, and ended up
having pizza with Blackmore. I'm sure we'll connect at some point. Thanks.

I was a hobby photographer from years gone by. I always return to
this circle just to look at the pictures that you guy’s take. I have to say
that I’m always impressed. Thanks for all the great photo’s.

 Fair enough. Looking forward to it, my friend.

Brooklyn, if what I'm doing is impressing you in the least, that's proof enough that anybody can shoot a decent picture.
The hardest part is just getting out there and doing it. And doing it again. Learn from what you've captured and try it again.

Ok, that's enough chat. How about some more pyrotechnics....

We'd been sitting in our lawn chairs for a couple hours to make sure our good vantage point at 'stage center' didn't get taken.
The weather was a brisk 50 degrees with a gentile breeze. Sitting there motionless for a couple hours was beginning to take it's toll, but the warmth from.......  :o

Hi all.
Fireworks taken at the Benson & Hedges International fireworks competition
in Montreal a long time ago.
Lots of trials and errors but I've settle for a few seconds at F8
with 100 ISO Kodak VPS 160.
Camera Rollei SLX with 80mm F/2.8 lens with tripod of course.
