zy, that's one of my all time favorites. But Audi gave up on wagons in U.S.. My salesman at ECS tuning has an A4 Avant. They're pretty beastly all around.

I looked. I went w/ the VW because I gotta a great deal on it. and as much as I love it, a car is just an appliance to me. Not a personal statement or anything else. Still this thing is a riot to drive. I'm sure the A4 even better with 2.0T & all wheel drive!

BTW: I just met the the neighbors sister. Damn!!  she's way cute too. I'm starting to like this neighborhood!

This was my dream car...until I owned it for a year.

i had one.  i can count how many times it got hit because it's too small to be seen by other drivers.  plus, the manual transmission has a 2nd gear grind.

Wagon lovers!  I feel so at home.  I like the old Volvo wagons too!  wish I could afford one right about now.

Steven, funny you mention Volvo. I really wanted a V50, but all them have a ton of miles on them now. The V60 is sweet, but a crap load of money. A new v60 polestar (Volvo's 'M' list at $60K) Heck any of the regular versions used with decent miles were in mid $30K range.

Yeah, those old 240 wagons would run forever. Huge cargo area, but car's still felt nimble. Dog slow though.

Oh on my car. I took off from a light in let's say a rather spirited fashion yesterday. A dude in a Grand Cherokee must have felt like his manhood was challenged so he go on it. I stayed even with his 4.0 until we got to corner where I dropped his ass like a hot rock.Wagons rule!

Can't be any slower than my 2003 Chevy S10 4Cyl.  I have to basically put the pedal to the metal every time I drive it otherwise I'll get blown off the road by other vehicles.

Steven, my first Izusu Trooper was like that, and it was 6 cyl. I had to drive through the 'mountains' on way from Louisville to shoot a job in VA. When it got hilly, I was in the truck lane down to 3rd gear w/ foot to floor maybe going 35? and it got crappy milage. I did sort of like that truck though, for it's basic simplicity. I managed to roll it over in the middle of a freeway during rush hour. Not a fun experience. No one got seriously hurt though.

Wow glad you're okay!  You mentioned your first choice was a Golf TDI, I had a 2013 and loved it.  I got about 43mpg on it regularly but sold it due to the price of diesel being so outrageous down here in TX at the time.  If I recall it was nearly a dollar above premium unleaded and even at the increased mileage per gallon I couldn't justify it.  The 40k maintenance is also quite expensive, same with the oil changes for it.  I'd buy another one in a heartbeat if I could afford it though.

My current dream car is a 2017 Volkswagen Golf GTI, manual transmission with all the options and in carbon steel gray or night blue metallic.  I love love love the plaid seats and if they're anything like my TDI was they're super comfortable for long road trips.

I really always wanted a GTI. But I'm glad I went wagon, mostly because you just don't see many, not that GTI's are common. Mine not as quick, but soon will have same (if not better) suspension.  8)

I used to not care for grey cars, but that Carbon Grey GTI looks badass. And yes, I'm glad they kept the plaid, at least on the base models. Manual 6 shifter is quite good. ESC sells a short throw kit that's not expensive.

Here is my Space Gray M3...I am biased, but I think it looks damn good!

I suppose I could get an M, but I'm saving my money to remodel my photo studio. I plan on going nuts. Not going to be cheap. I want aluminum channel storefront type windows. Really pricey.

Maybe someday, I'll get an M2

Drive fast, but stay safe!

Wheels are from APEX.

In the winter I use EC-7's and in the summer ARC-8

DoubleJ. I've not seen a circa 2002 dash. But VW has really amped up quality since the Mk4 days. They got a really bad rep with those first Mexican models. I've had zero issues and hope none arise. I belong to a VW wagon owners forum. Biggest gripe these days (besides the diesel thing) is leaking sunroofs, which I don't have. And It seems like the hatch release button on driver's door tends to fail, but that's about it. Mine is buggy, but the release on key fob works fine.

Someone mentioned hydrolocking on the TDI. I've not read about that. Some people who install aftermarket cold air intakes that go down into front wheel well have had this issue.  I'm gonna run a CAI someday, but one I want pulls in air from grill, not way down low.

cheers mate.

I put one down low on my mustang and while it worked great with my after-market airbox and K&N filter it made a much better vacuum cleaner.
The intake scoop, lower left below, mounted underneath the air-dam,lots of cold air plus dirt and leaves.

I put up with for about 3 months and I was cleaning the K&N once a month which was total BS. :duh:
No way would I recommend a cold air intake box low on the front of the car.

Scotty, I guess jury is out on CAI in general. It's my opinion that any that claim 20 hp are lying. Maybe 8 at best? The VW airbag on the 2.5 is a bit crappy. It's more about noise suppression than efficiency. I'd like a little intake noise my self. I'm gonna do exhaust too. I've have a buddy from VW forum that showed me a mod that's way cheaper than full cat back and sounds good. Not like some fart can tuner car. Hate those. (2.5 has two mufflers, you simply remove the final one, sounds stupid, but it works)

The somewhat odd ball 5 cyl. has a cool sound once you unlock it. I hate loud cars, but I do like a bit of growl and snarl when getting on throttle!  :D

Yeah 20 hp from a CAI or a set of mufflers is BS. Even on a 300HP motor I don't think you would get 10HP at the flywheel. Without chassis dyno measurements for these mods all you have is marketing. It take a big bump in HP and torque at the rear wheels to feel it in the seat of your pants.
