quiet 12v wallwart for t-amp, which?
« on: 26 Nov 2014, 12:28 am »
have generic wallwart for amp work but is somewhat noisy.  This one is quiet but large and not practical for my use  http://www.parts-express.com/power-supply-regulated-3-12-vdc-2a-6-way--120-536

I know there is another thread for linear PS but none in the range of $15 or less.  Anyone aware of any good deal on the PS which is reasonably silent.

I am also looking for similar silent wallwart for around 24v for higher powered amp, suggestions will be welcome.

I'd buy an Astron for double the price. The SMPS's won't ever sound too great until you buy a high dollar one.

well,it maybe not the ps at fault(noisy)but the amp psrr...
if it's unregulated you could turn it to regulated one with less noise,
and the amp with little psrr might work

cheers.. :green:

There's a bit more to it than PSRR.

These are all 13.8v

You don't need the higher amperage. People just tend to see what's used and cheap around.

+1 for the Astron. Many on the TPA3116 thread have picked up used Astron RS20, RS 12, RS7 or SL 11. SL = slim line and RS are more boxy and not as wide. I read somewhere that model number with 7 and higher have better parts but don't know that for a fact. If you want to keep it small and lighter stay away from anything higher than 12. I got a slightly scratched up SL 15 for about $5 plus shipping from ebay but that took me a long time to find a deal like that (it was miss marked and almost looked like it was broken). You can find a RS7 between $10 to 30 if you look for a while on ebay and craigslist. They are heavy so shipping adds up. Good luck!

12V linear regulated wallwart
http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&productId=162996&catalogId=null&CID=MERCH

Even though it's for a work system which likely won't be played very loud, .5A seems like fairly low maximum current to run a TPA3116 at 12V.  I guess it will depend on the sensitivity of the speakers.

That's a good price and it's nice that it has its own power cord; I am tired of wall warts taking up three outlets on a power bar or wall outlet.

I had purchased a Meanwell 12V 5A for my Topping TP20 Tripath chipamp.
Based on reputation and what others were recommending.

I think this is the link:
