James  why  was a phase reverse switch left out of the design...thanks... REDBOOK. :thumb:

Hi

Its really not something that makes a lot of sense these days with multi-miked recordings because any one signal chain could be in or out of absolute phase.

So you get the horns in absolute phase but the drums are out.  Its a 50/50.

I find the phase reversal switch on my BP-26 very useful at times.
Sometimes the vocals are a little less difficult to understand when I check by flipping the switch.
With my Maggies, I notice phase normal the image is slightly in between and front of the speakers. With phase reversed the image is larger and behind the speakers.
(I have my Maggies turned in a lot)

...thanks James  I guess it's not worth the trouble in most situations... :thumb:

The beauty of recorded music is that, unlike with food, you're not limited to fare just made "these days"
(Just some friendly ribbing, James) :nono:

Even if you believe that current multi-mike recordings don't reveal the benefits of correct polarity (and I don't), 95% of my music collection is stuff either recorded a rather long time ago, or if produced recently, recorded with attention to phase coherency. Absolute polarity switching for me is a crucial feature to have, somewhere in the equipment chain. The preamp makes the most sense from a practical standpoint, especially if you have analog sources. In a purely digital system, I think it's best accomplished in the DAC. Like Elizabeth, I listen to Maggie's, where the effects are likely more noticeable. But many "box" speakers, including Bryston's offerings, are touted to be phase coherent, and should easily show the salutary effects of correct absolute polarity.

REDBOOK, trust your ears!

I need two outputs: One to the amplifier and one to the  Stax Lambda  electrostatic amplifier
I'm currently using a BP 6 C (two output connectors)

Can I use audio frequency Y splitters with the 17 cubed without degrading the sound?

Looking at a BP-17cubed picture via Bryston website I see on the back FOUR sets out output .
Two pair RCA. (one RCA fixed level, other by volume, and two pair XLR.)
I think you are covered.

My trouble is with the fixed output - - zero amplification

Sorry, Elizabeth. I should have mentioned the BR6 is driving a 4Bsst2 into a pair if Thiel 2.7 speakers.  The amplifier for the Stax Lambda Pro headphones needs a decent input to drive the amplifier output to the electrostatics. Zero input doesn't work.

My beloved neighbors insist on "quiet" after9:00 pm, so I'm relegated to the Stax for the evening.

Hi Folks,

The 2 sets of outputs (RCA and BAL) on the BP-17 Cubed can have the one set fixed or both sets variable.

James,
How do I change the fixed RCA output to a variable one?   I need both RCA outputs to be variable: one to an amplifier, and one to a Star Headphone amplifier.

Hi George, From engineering.

Hi James,

Only one pair of XLR outputs is configurable as either LINE or PREAMP out.

The SE (RCA) outputs are not configurable.

Perhaps a "Y: connector could be used on the RCA PRE-OUT for the customers purposes?

Thanks,
David

I figured that might be the case, but thank you for checking.

Hi Folks,

Just got the copy of the review on the Bryston BP-17 Cubed preamplifier coming in June 2018 issue.

As the Brits would say "Its a corker"

James, what is the current waiting time for a BP17cubed with MM and DAC option? Thank you.

Given the backorders I would say 4 weeks.

Ah, great. I was afraid it was longer since parts shortage might affect the Dac option.

Hi James, i ordered my bp17 with dac and mm phono precisely 5 weeks and 1 day ago. Any chance you could find out when my unit ships to Avitech in Vienna? Thanks

Hi James,

Is there an option on the BP-17 cubed to switch the LEDs from Green to Blue like there is on the BR-20?  I looked through the BP-17 manual and didn’t see anything.
