Nothing for the Hafler 120?
« on: 1 Jul 2015, 01:15 am »
It looks like my favorite 'little' amp, the Hafler 120 has been ignored by the AVA upgrade department.

I hope that means it's so good stock that no improvements are possible.  :green:

The problem is that the Hafler 120 power amplifier has a unique chassis layout.  With the larger Hafler amplifier (200 through 600), the heat sink layouts can accept the same audio board designs we tool for our own AVA chassis.  All that is required to adapt them to the larger Hafler amplifiers was inclusion of alternate mounting holes on the circuit board ends.  We don't have to build any significant design, layout, and tooling costs into offering AVA circuits in these amplifiers.

Unfortunately, the Hafer DH120 would require a unique size, shape, and board layout and all the tooling and design costs assigned to this.  Inasmuch as the population of the DH-120 is tiny compared to all the larger chassis Hafler amplifiers, we calculated there would never be enough business for this unique design to cover our up front design, tooling, and fabrication costs.  We did run dual purpose AVA circuit boards one time long ago that fit in both the Dyna ST-120 and the Hafler ST-120, but that was with a much simpler circuit requiring many fewer circuit board mounted parts.  With our more modern circuits, adapting an AVA Dyna 120 circuit board to a Hafler 120 chassis became impossible, just not enough internal room for it in the Hafler.

Sorry about that.  If all else fails, consider a new Synergy 240 power amplifier.  We actually have a very nice used one available right now at $945 with a two year parts and labor warranty and our 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

Whoops, the used one just sold.  Consider a new Synergy 240 at $1199.
