FS: Dodd 120 Monoblock Amplifiers - Reduced
« on: 29 Jul 2015, 07:01 pm »
I have a pair of 2nd gen. Dodd 120's for sale.  The story behind these is a little interesting, so bear with me.  I purchased the pair some years ago as I had heard these amps at a listening session in Ft. Worth.  At that time, the amps had the 2nd gen. linear bias meter on the top.  Those meters both had cracked leads, and the amps were sent back to Gary Dodd for repair.  Instead of putting an autobiasing circuit in, he reverted them back to manual bias, and covered the hole.  The amps have worked perfectly since.  The original Sonicaps have been replaced by Mundorfs...and the Sonicaps will accompany the amps in the sale.

These are in excellent cosmetic condition, silver faced with maple or birch blonde sides, all indicators work and tubes are excellent, sporting JJ and GE 7044's. Extra tubes come with sale.  Specifics on request.  They have never been blown, powered only by power controller, pet free, smoke free home.  Only preamp ever used with this pair is a Juicy Music Blueberry Xtreme, also for sale.

These are heavy and I prefer pick up in Knoxville, TN, but I can ship for extra money.

Asking $2200.00. NOW $2000.00, OBO.

Very nice.  What tubes does it use all around?

No way!  I am so sorry...he really was an audio star.  I guess I should pull these for a bit.

My respects to his family and friends.

I don't think you have to pull the ad at least from my perspective. Just wanted to be sure you knew about his passing. In a way you have an irreplaceable amp. Nice pics by the way.

It is a shame about Gary. By all accounts he seemed to be a truly great person with a lot of recent hardships.

In my opinion it would not be disrespectful in any way to have these for sale.  They serve as a testament to the quality work he did.

I agree.  It honors him to have his equipment live on.

To respond to the inquiry about tubes, here is the page from the owners manual which I also have.

The amps currently have the EL34s, and 7044s in them.

More pics, weight is 36.80 lbs per amp, with the negligible tube weight added.

Great amps at an excellent price, especially with the additional tubes. Rarely come up for sale and will be more difficult to find in the future. If I didn't already have my pair, these would be mine. Good luck with the sale!

How do you bias the amps?

Moving the switch to the right and left, you place a multimeter  leads in the pots and read the level, turning the screw to increase the level. All petty easy and I will walk you through it...hell, I will include my RS multimeter with the deal.

I have a lot of equipment, and I need to downsize dramatically, so no, I am not looking to trade at this point.

But thanks for the inquiry.
