24/192KHz on USB from RME
« on: 5 Sep 2009, 01:35 pm »
Now available is a USB ADC/DAC from RME with analog I/O, digital I/O, Word Clock I/O and a USB 2.0 input that will pass up to 192KHz. The Fireface UC looks interesting and cost is reasonable at $1299. I may have to sell my Fireface 400 (firewire) and get this one.

Chris,
Nice catch.  Places like Sweetwater have it and their in-home trial/return policy is pretty good.  Thx

Another neat thing is it uses an external power supply of 8-28VDC so can be powered from a nice linear supply or a battery supply for sonic improvements. I power my Fireface 400 from a battery supply the sonic improvement is substantial.

Other than the interface, how does it differ from the Fireface 400?

Looks like they are pretty much the same. The UC may have lower latency. I had a problem with my 400 where the fire wire input blew and it took out the fire wire module on my laptop as well. Had to get the 400 replaced and bought a fire wire express card for my laptop. The USB seems to be a more universal conneciton. It is getting hard to even find a laptop with fire wire connection these days (seems to be on its way out).
