I cant believe how good some of the shows sound. I think the early 70s shows have much better sound than the latter. Maybe because they were in more intimate arenas. idk. A lot of the later recordings sound hollow, earlier more organic. Thats just the recording quality as there were plenty o great shows. I see the 1977 show, I will def get that one. Any other later shows with better than avg sound?

Hey Mike,

There are plenty of earlier shows that sound pretty bad.  I'm trying to share shows here on AC that I've found to be worthy of the equipment we've all spent good money on.  But to answer your question, I haven't found any later shows that possess high SQ...yet.

If you haven't already, check out that 5-26-73 show.  It has a few quirks, but damn, the bass and imaging I get with my system is outstanding.  Actually, I kinda like some of the quirks.  Reminds of who I'm listening to.  aa

Thats weird, but I would think the larger venues have something to do with the sound not being as good SQ wise.. I havent listened several times through yet but the 73 show sounds perty damn good. I can understand the comment made about the Dicks Picks, I think they could have been mastered better than they were.
Mike
Maybe Mr. Miller should remaster those releases?

hey

some of the best sounding stuff you can find out there are the 6-14-85 thru 6-17-85 shows(20th Anniversary) out west. they have some of the best low end on them. phil's bass will rattle your walls.

the old stuff is cool but as technology went digital in the 80's some of the master's are just unbelievable.

This one is a must have.  It's a matrix recording, which means it's part audience recording and part soundboard.  It has very good sound quality.  The 5-8-77, Barton Hall show is considered one the best shows by many.  It is known for its Scarlet Begonias -> Fire On The Mountain, which is most definitely very sweet.  I personally think the whole show is excellent.  Hope y'all enjoy this.  It appears to be very well seeded, so download time should be minimal.

I agree.  The matrix recordings sound a bit bloated to me.  I think its a consequence of one guy's audience recording laid down over another guys soundboard recording, which creates an over-bassy, bloated sound.  Still, it sounds pretty good to me after I let my ears get used to it.  I'm single driver with a sub backing me up on the lows.  I'm also using Inguz DRC, which has really chilled out and refined the bass in my room.

Oh, PS, I still haven't found anything that rivals the 2-13-70.  It just rocks and sound good doing it.

OK - I downloaded Transmission on my MAC and then began downloading from bt.etree.  After downloading for a few hours it stopped.  Am I doing something wrong?  I figured the best way to learn how do do this and how it all works is to jump right in.

Thanks - Todd

No you did right! Try right clicking update tracker. If that doesnt work there arent enough seeders and it might not downld. Just leave it open and sometimes it will pick up when more seeders come on.

I should probably tell you all a little about the above mentioned download.  First, I have not spent much time listening to New Riders' sets, so I can't really comment, other than to say that what little I've listened to left me unimpressed.  Second, the first GD acoustic set was apparently recorded entirely through the left channel.  This is a shame, as it seems that this set was otherwise flawless.

It is the last GD set that is most impressive to me.  While there are a few little glitches in the recording, they can easily be overlooked, as this set has tons of energy and very good sound quality.

Even though the first set is one channel, it's still worth listening to even if it makes you a little sad (or mad).
