Sony 5400 ? - is this my laser slowly dying?

plays CDs like a champ, but any hybrids or true DSDs are only read as CDs. seems it just wont read SACDs any longer (which, given i own 5, is not a big deal, but still).

Could be something on the digital board.  Have you cleaned the laser?  Some of the Sony players may respond to a re-setting procedure (from memory it involves turning it on with a disc in it but it's been so long since I owned one - had a modded 777ES 15 years ago).

reset did nothing, but good suggestion.

Have you tried with HDMI and analog outs.
