VMPS RM40 + Marantz MM 7055 ????
« on: 5 Dec 2016, 11:13 am »
Hello,

I wonder if Marantz MM 7055 can be used as monoblocks? I'm looking something for my VMPS RM40 speakers and i've seen somewhere on internet a picture of 2 Marantz MM 7055 connected to speakers. Just wonder if they can be used as saperate monoblocks or not?

Thanks

Looking at Marantz' webpage it just says 5, 140 watt channels with no mention of bridging ability....so I would say no

What amps would you suggest for these speakers?

What's your budget?  I've heard them with Ampzilla 2000, Ncore NC400, Crown XLS1500.

I have a pair of 40s and have used an Edge M6 (120 watts/ch) and currently a Nuforce Reference 9 V3 SE mono amps (175 watts/ch).  Both amps drove the 40s well.  I would sell the Edge M6 high current amp if you have any interest.  It was $3000 new--sell for under $1000.  It is in good shape, say 7 0r 8 on the Audiogon scale.

Ampzilla is an awesome suggestion !!! Another favorite of mine is Hafler - must be a Transnova model.  Both were so far ahead of their time and would compete very well even in todays marketplace... Check E-Bay.

I have Bryston 28bsst2 mono blocks driving my RM30 series 2. Lightening fast dynamics and a sweet sound.

My Bryston 4bsst2 was not a good match. There was a hardness in the upper midrange I could not eliminate.
