I alluded to this before.

Albums you wish you still had, or never got, and now cannot find without a 4-digit bid on Ebay.

I have a list of things I recorded onto 8 track in the store I worked, but never found to buy.
I figure most of us are into some variety of 'audio-obscura', from a lifetime of eating this stuff up.

Just as you probably have old favorites that some people have never heard to bring, so to, you might WANT to hear one you don't have.

I can lead off with Jaime Brockett.
Scott never heard of him, but he did a few tunes that got airplay back 'in the day'.  Not sure if all I want is on the same album (I think his first), but I know at least two are.
If this is leaving you blank, there was:
"Talking VietNam Pot-Luck Blues" - a comedic talking/rhyming blues
("Well, when I got to VietNam, we hardly got to see Saigon.
They lined us up and called the roll and off we went on a long patrol...
         Swatting flies...
         Swapping Lies....
Firing the odd round here and there...")
...or something like that.

Another is (I think) "The Legend of the USS Titanic" on the same record.
(more lyrics available on request, but time goes short for me...)

Anyway, would love to here this and my thriftshop finds have not revealed it.  WOe to the day that 8track unwound...

ANyone else have one?

Regards,

Deadfish,
I remember that one on KSHE, through a fog, darkly.
It shows up if you search on www.allmusic.com. Album name is Remember the Wind and the Rain with the cuts, "Legend of the USS Titanic" and "Talking Green Beret New Super Yellow"--1969--what a year. Don't know how available it is but maybe that will get you started.

As for me, I sure would like some clean copies of Rare Bird's first two albums, Rare Bird and As Your Mind Flies By. and of Gypsy' first two albums, Gypsy and In the Garden. I found the Gypsy's on CD after putting them on hold at the library and weighting about 6 months but I'd love to have the vinyl.

Then there's Joe Bird and the Field Hippies, Waiting to Die for the 17th Time. The few copies I've seen of that on vinyl are way too pricey for used plastic (that probably has roach burns in it).  :o

As for 8-tracks, I still have memories of Led Zeppelin II going out the window a few feet at a time on our way to Ft. Lauderdale on spring break, haulin ass in a 65 Impala hardtop. I bet that tape stretched half way across Georgia!!

Theres a few old KSHE classics I'd love to find....cheap.

The first is a copy of JD Blackfoot the Ultimate Prophacy. I've got it on CD but would love to have the vinyl. I refuse to pay $100 or more for a clean copy. Shoot - Sepia Sister, Stackridge - Slark, Glencoe - Airport and Unicorn Ooou Mother would be a cool find too. Most of those sell for $15 to $20 at Euclid but I can't seem to justify that kind of money for a single song.

Then the ultimate, Frank Sinatra box set on MoFi. I'll find this sitting at a garage sale or flea market one of these days.

Speaking of KSHE Classics. This is one that I've been thinking about for a while. If anybody is interested, I've literally got the vast majority of that stuff on vinyl. Not just what Eulit plays on Sunday mornings, I've got some of the really obscure stuff like Head Hands and Feet, Butts Band, Headstone, Charlie, Elf (with Dio), Trapeze, Status Quo, Triumvirat and the list goes on and on.

Anyway, I was thinking about doing like a poker game or darts or something where we don't do (necessarily) critical listening but a Classics night, day or morning. It kinda goes along with the 'themes' for our get togethers.

Anybody interested?

Hey all-

This is really giving away my age.....

Back in the ole' days, there was a radio station in Appleton, WI that played blues, jazz, and (at that time, what was considered) alternative rock music. The station was WAPL- "The Apple". Listening to that station exposed me to some really good stuff- and as a result- I managed to build a sizeable LP collection from what I heard on that station.

The format changed at WAPL- and I have long since moved from that area- but that was my time  :smoke: .

One of the bands that really did it for me was the "Electric Flag". Much later, I learned that some of the band members did their own 'solo' albums, and I have since found many of those on LP and CD.

But one group in particular- "Wayne Cochran and the CC Ryders" has eluded me for - well- since 1972. I have a warped LP of the album "Cochran" on Epic records- and the damn thing is warped. Playable- but warped. Amazing southern rock/soul band with eleven ( that's ELEVEN ) horn players plus guitar, bass, drums and Wayne Cochran's coarse blues-hollering voice. Even a small gospel choir on some tunes. Sure wish I could find either an un-warped LP, or a CD of this album.

Memories, memories. This album kicks a--

May the music be with you...

I remember Wayne Cochran well and the Electric Flag. How about the Electric Prunes? Big B3 sound as I remember. And then there were the horn bands as you say--the Flock, Chase were some of the more obscure ones.

Classics and Poker

Scott:

I think classics and poker is a great idea. Kinda like beer n pizza, peanut butter n jelly, Fred n Ginger, me n Elizabeth Hurley...OK, maybe not that good. If you can wait about a month I'd definately be interested, but my next several weekends are shot.

BTW, I went out after dinner last night and picked up Los Lonely Boys. Had the house to myself for about an hour and really jammed on it. I even snuck in a few cuts this am before I left for work. I'm REALLY gonna like that one. Thanks for turning me on to it. Unfortunately, Best Buy quit carrying Ronnie Earl. I'll find it somewhere.

....yeah..

I've got unopened copies of the Chase albums. I remember the Prunes too. But, Flock- not aquainted with them. Pretty good, huh?

wish I lived closer to St. Louis ( used to get thru there once a month )- an old music "fest" would be a blast  :drums: .......

Thats cool. I'm plowed for the next few myself. Plus, that will give me some time to pull them out and give them a good cleaning on my RC station.

.... like fine wines, vinyl gets better with age....

Those guys kick ass.    I've had to start rationing my listens to them so I don't wear it out. I like them way too much.

You may want to try Amazon for Ronnie Earl, Still River. Thats where I found him. I think it's OOP now. It's an old Audioquest release. If you can't find it let me know. Together we can break a few federal laws.

The Dean Peer is only availible at his website. You get it within about two weeks.

Howdy-do.

THanks for the tip on where to find the Peer stuff, Scott.
I must have written the solo title we listened to, down wrong.
Nonetheless, have 'Ucross' coming..

Also, 'poker-classics' sounds outstanding.  Hell, just being DJ and watching y'all tossing money around would be as good as anything donchaknow.  :)
I think I have some of the above stuff on vinyl to listen to like Ultimate Prophecy, the first couple Gypsy albums and Joe Byrd that has maybe 10 plays on it...  I was real good about getting it home, putting it on cassette, and forgetting I owned it.  8)   Maybe I can even find 'As your Mind Flys by!"

Ah, audio-obscura!

Also know what you mean Scott 'bout burning out.
I had to take 'Los Lonely Boys' outa rotation on purpose.  I was gonna overamp.  When you reach that point when the damned songs are starting to bounce around in your head on their own...ya know?

So, I'm doing a force-march on other things for a few days like the Casino Lights I got on again now for the 3rd time. (sigh..) forgot how much I enjoyed it.

(whatelse?)aH yes!  Trapeze!  Would love to hear "Medusa' again! Gawd, its been years!  and Head, Hands & Feet! Haven't even thought about them in a long time.
I *think* I saw them at MRF, but I saw a lot of things there that nobody else did....  heheheh

Well, I'm sure there is something else.
I gotta go.
Marcus Miller is spanking my butt.

Oh yeaH!
A big PS!  Trying out my new 19.2v screwgun, I attached a bottletop openner to my computer desk and cannot figure out why I *never* realized it belonged there for a long time!

Regards,
