I agree with Norman Tracy totally. I have lived with the Townshend Maximus supertweeters for over 7 years. They kick in at about 10k hz. They extend to some ungodly frequency over 90k hz. I have heard improvements in bass and midrange, as well as sparkle and excitement in the very high frequencies. I also have had hearing tests and hear little over 12.5k hz. So whats going on here ? As Norman says, "it is what it is". But I digress. When I retired to smaller digs, my soundroom shrunk considerably. Now at a nearfield listening position I find the Townshends impose too much personality. My current speakers were never a slouch in the high frequencies, but promised myself never to compromise to less than stella highs. With this in mind, I now feel the system better served without the Townshends. In a small room, they caused my midrange to "shout" . Overall balance was also compromised. Now appreciating the sweetness provided by my one inch dome tweeters.
