Bryston And Speaker Loads
« on: 30 Mar 2015, 03:40 pm »
Just got off Bryston's website . Was looking at amp specs , specifically the 7 series mono blocks. No info into 2 ohms ? Does this mean they would not work with my electrostats ?

My speakers specs are : Impedance - nominal 6 ohms   minimum 1.8 ohms
Power handling - 450 watts per channel
recommended amplifier power - 150 - 200 watts
sensitivity - 83db/2.83 volts/meter
frequency response - 32hz - 24khz +- 3db

My 7BSST2's are driving a pair of Infinity 9 Kappas that are nominal 6 ohms but dip to .8 (not a typo) ohms at 32 hz and again at 340 hz accompanied by some nasty phase angles.  The job is a walk in the park for the 7's.  They don't break a sweat even under the most demanding material.  As for the sound, I felt like  I bought a new pair of speakers when I installed the 7's.  Your speaker's efficiency rating will be the least of your worries with these amps.

Are you talking about the SST2s, SSTs or STs?

I'd have to think that the SST2 would be best.  I've owned more than one ST (still have a 3BST) and more than one SST amp.  That is not to say that the others would be a problem.
