Is the AVA T9 preamp still available?  It disappeared from AVA's site.

Actually we are almost ready to announce a new solid state Vision SL preamplifier.  Just waiting for the newly designed power supply board for it to come in from the board fabricator.

The Vision SL has a new Class A discrete audio circuit designed by Mithat Konar, one of my engineering specialists.

The musical performance rivals that of the Transcendence Nine tube preamp and since the Vision SL will be much lower cost, we decided to discontinue the T9 to maintain rational production economies here.  No point duplicating efforts.  It also replaces the Insight+ SL IC based solid state preamplifier.

Our premium Fet Valve CF vacuum tube preamp remains at the top of our line of course.

Frank,
Will the new Vision preamp be available in the EC chassis?

As an upgrade for existing Insight+EC?

Also, I would love a silver faced version of the EC preamp; is this a possibility?

Mark

It would be a complete pain in the ass and a second audio board to support tone controls with the new class A solid state Vision line circuits.  Too expensive.

So we will continue with the excellent Insight+ EC preamp in production for those who want a full function preamp with tone controls and all the bells and whistles.

The sales volume of the EC preamp does not justify the cost of tooling a unique new silver faceplate for it.

The Vision SL circuit will be available as an upgrade to existing SL chassis, but since it requires both a new audio board and a new power supply board, the upgrade price is $699 plus extra cost for any out of date option circuits.  The Vision phono circuits, tape buffer, and inverter options do not change.

Can this be installed in the old smaller chassis Omega preamps?

Also is the phono stage all new or is the new Vision phono stage that is currently shipping?

Tom, can you post a sharp photo showing the insides of your Omega series preamp?  One slight "gatcha" would be if your old unit had the original PC card mounted power transformer.  If so the upgrade would need a new power transformer as the original power supply board has to be replaced.

Hi Tom,

Yes, I can squeeze a new Vision stereo line board, Vision stereo phono board, new power supply board, and new toroid power transformer in you preamp chassis.  Actually I could salvage and reuse your existing power supply board except that it won't provide the headphone performance of the new unit.  The new power supply board has LME49600 buffer amplifiers built in to drive headphones.

The cost would be $699 for the line stage and power supply, $249 for the standard Vision phono, or $329 for the adjustable phono good for both MM and MC cartridges.  You would save $50 if we recycle your power supply.

It appears that this unit has phase inverter circuits built into half of each line board.  With the new circuits that would require an additional $199 board.

Frank,

I've been hoping to see more information on the class A discrete circuits in the new Vision SL Preamp. Will you describe details of this new circuit, such as number of stages, how many coupling capacitors in the signal path, etc. I'm also interested in how it compares in performance to older circuits such as used in the Hafler DH101 and DH110 preamps.

I'm tempted to buy the Vision SL with your Vision phono stage installed. Would the Vision Phono board now use the newest design with all OPA627 op-amps? (I need the MM version).

Thanks!

Bill

The same latest design phono stage is now used in both the latest Fet-Valve and Vision preamplifiers.  It is available in a fixed gain (for moving magnet) and variable gain (for either MM or MC at a slightly higher cost).  It is also available in a separate standalone box as well.

Wow, it's difficult to imagine AVA without an award-winning Transcendence unit. It's too bad those days are gone.

I hope they return one day.

Have fun,
